Got an e-mail telling me Warner Archive is selling the 5 Lex Barker Tarzan films at 50% off.

Let's see...Tarzan with Johnny Weissmuller Vol 1 is $47.99 (6 films), and Vol 2 is $31.99 (6 films), but 5 films burned to DVDr with no bonus features warrants $50 ($100 when not "on sale")? Absurd.

The Weismuller box sets are frequently available on sale for $25-30 for the first set and $15-25 for the second, so getting five Barker Tarzans for $50 is no bargain.

My guess is that most of the Archive titles aren't selling much at all at $20 and Warner will slowly begin offering package deals/sales/coupons until they find a price point at which they get a decent amount of sales. These discs are almost pure profit for them so there's a lot of room for discounting there.

Until they do offer them at a decent price, there's plenty of other DVDs available for me to watch.

When they drop to $10 or so, I'll try one. $20 + shipping + sales tax + dvdr + a disclaimer that the films aren't remastered keeps me away unless there's something I must see that I can't find on the collector's market. So far, nothing has fit into that category for me.

That is tempting. I want these for a long time. I might give this a shot. The covers and DVDs Warner makes/burns don't look to bad.
