Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles{2011}
It was rumoured a while back that the Ninja Turtles might return as a live-action movie – as opposed to a CGI feature like 2006s TMNT. Variety has confirmed plans for a stunt men-driven reboot.
The Mirage Group, which owns the property, is moving forward with a live-action film focusing on the origins of the iconic crime fighters.
The film has been announced to tie in with the 25th anniversary of the pizza-eating green squad. The "Shell-ebration" will also include lighting the Empire State Building in "turtle green, and a screening of the origin al 1990 “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer Scott Mednick is producing the new pic alongside Galen Walker, who produced the 2007 computer-animated "TMNT" pic, the most recent installment in the franchise.
"The original dozen comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman are some of the best source material one could hope for," said Mednick, whose exec producing credits include the upcoming "Where the Wild Things Are." Laird, who bought out creator Kevin Eastman's share of the property several years ago, said the film will remain true to the spirit of the original comicbooks. He added that the pic may employ face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

So this is really gonna happen? And, if so, is it true that the director of the first will direct this new live action remake?

I love the first two movies; the third was fun as a kid, but doesn't really hold up over the years. And I actually really enjoyed TMNT a lot (both story-wise and visually). So needless to say, I am definitely interested.
Wondering what this is all about though. It says "focusing on the origins," but what does that mean? Didn't they explore the origins in the first movie? I'd much prefer them continuing where TMNT left off.

Yeah. but with all the reboots going around{Batman, Star Trek} I'm not really surprisedbyt this.
I'm just happy there will be a new live action movie.

Well my main question here is what direction it's going to take. About 6 months ago rumors were rampant we were going to get a gritty more comic-based take on the turtles.
Don't have to think twice. I'm there opening day. I watched TMNT for the first time since I saw it in theaters the other day and I really enjoyed it again.

While I imagine it is going to be a reboot, I thought TMNT was fantastic, and struck a great balance between kid-friendly and a dark story. I'll spoiler my next comment on the slight chance that someone hasn't seen it yet...
That being said, if they do a reboot I will definitely be there.

I would rather this follow where TMNT left off.
TMNT5 could deal with that and further revelations regarding their past. Particularly the origins of the Foot clan.
But I know I'd watch it even if it is to be a reboot.

Neat.
I saw the CG one in theaters. I think I was drunken and don't remember it too well. But I do remember enjoying it, even though the end came a little too quick.
The first TMNT is still really good. I would consider it one of classy, high-quality comic-book flicks that eventually led to the current wave of great comic book adaptations (I credit X-Men the most). A great mix of fantasy and drama, which generally played everything straight. There were plenty of 'meh, bleh, whatever' comic book flicks in the 90's; TMNT was not one of them.

The CGI version is damn good, and just needed a little more action to be truly epic.
I enjoy the original live-action alot too, and I'm a fan of the comics. I didn't like how kid-friendly the series eventually became, but I understand why it went that way. Still, I think the original movie and the CGI movie struck a great balance and I'd love for a reboot to do the same.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles{2011}
In regards to the CG film of late, the story was mediocre, with decent enough action to not entirely fall by the wayside, after as Turtles movies are concerned.
What really pulled me out of the film was the writing. Between the dialogue, and the forced cliches, nothing about it came across as polished.
So, hopefully, they return to live-action for this one...

I loved the animated movie and was hoping they would continue to go that route or build off that story. I'd be ok with a reboot though.

I'll be there to see this. Like many of you I was and still am a big fan of of the first two movies and the original cartoon. The third film I never liked even when I was younger and I've yet to see TMNT. But I would really like to see what direction a reboot would take the series in.

Although I somewhat enjoyed TMNT, the character design for the humans was atrocious. The Turtles were great, personality and physicality wise. Story was all right, but I will give them credit for taking a risk and doing a "non-Shredder" movie.
This one sounds awesome though.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles{2011}
The only thing that bugged me about TMNT was the prologue. It was originally meant to be narrated by Winters just before the final battle of the movie. That's when his origin and his endgame was to be revealed. Somewhere along the way, Kevin Munroe decided to put it at the beginning and it hurt the film. With it as a prologue the audience is sitting around waiting for the Turtles, Splinter, April, and Casey to figure out what was already explained at the begining of the movie. And the finale feels rushed because it doesn't have the impressive action flashback to pad it out.
