A List of Lists

These are songs that are composed primarily of lists:

Women the singer has slept with:
88 Lines About 44 Women (The Nails)

People Who Died
People Who Died (The Jim Carroll Band)

Momentous events and people from the first 40 years of Billy Joel's life
We Didn't Start the Fire (Billy Joel)

Texans in love with dying
Pepper (Butthole Surfers)

Add your own favorites to the list!

Well there's the original that most of these owe a debt of gratitude to:

Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues

And its notable children

REM - It's the End of the World as We know it (And I feel fine)

Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Tokyo Storm Warning

I wonder if that song, "Mambo #5" is the updated version of that song?

MC Paul Barman — "Cock Mobster"

In which the MC summarizes his fantasies about his "porn utopia" / "cornucopia of warm fellopia" with Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Laura Prepon, Erica Eleniak, Amy Tan, Mila Kunis, Liz Hurley, Venus & Serena, etc.

That would be LCD Soundystem's "Losing My Edge" a great primer on good/great 70s/80s/90s artists.

and the low distorted voice saying ' [so and so] ... is in the house'
personally I like singing to it, (by myself) and adding other non-sensical names to the list just for grins.

Re: A List of Lists

I've never heard of Mylo before, but for me, the best part of the song isn't "David Booie" -- it's "Cyndi Looper."

Now that I've heard that and Losing My Edge, I am reminded of a couple of other songs that are or include lists of other artists or songs:

Rocket -- Def Leppard
R.O.C.K in the U.S.A. -- John Cougar Mellencamp
Life is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me) -- Reunion

Life is a Rock:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/16kh-AP4OCU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/16kh-AP4OCU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Why does it say Pepper "uncensored"? what is usually censored?

How about "Class of '57" by the Statler Brothers?

Re: A List of Lists

Philip Lynott "Talk In 79" from his Solo in Soho album:

The Clash were headed for a head on collision
Crash for complete control
The Pistols left behind a swindle and a scandal
That nobody wished to handle
Sham 69 were left in a shambles
Generation X was next
Elvis and Nick Lowe
They had a go
With the help of the Attractions
And Joe Jackson said it wasn't his style
Dave Edmunds survived alive
On top of a Rockpile
Devo didn't know if they were men
Because they couldn't get no satisfaction
The Rats were caught in their own trap
Steve Strange began to change
Ultravox had a system
Kraftwerk nearly beat them
And the Yellow Magic Orchestra missed them
Eno rose for Lowe
The Slits became rasta
And the Buzzcocks played faster and faster with adrenalin
John Cooper Clarke he was smart
The Public Image became Limited
The Police were re-released and came out as a three-piece
The Rocky Horror Show became the history of tomorrow
Nina Hagen, she was a German maiden
And the music press revealed their anger
When threatened by the Stranglers
This broadcast was brought to you in 1979
I'm just talking to you over these waves
Not just about another time and another place
And before we knew it
The old wave was gone and controlled
