B1G1F on Blu-ray Discs, through 3/8/09
[I am starting this thread because I would prefer that discussion of this sale be put here, rather than in the Sale Offer Code thread.]
As readers of the Sale Offer Code thread have seen, thejester has found three codes that offer Buy One Get One Free on Blu-ray Discs:
802168
805168
809068
The codes are reportedly unlimited, meaning that one can buy numerous BDs and get freebies for each. No free shipping with the code and no sitewide free shipping thus far. Expiration is said to be 11:59 PM EST 3/8/09 but since daylight savings time starts on the 8th, it may be "EDT" instead.

I ordered:
Little Miss Sunshine
Silence of the Lambs
I'm going to wait a day or so to see if we get free shipping before I order any more. Thanks for the heads up! I am starting to run short of wants from CH as my list is now under ten.

If you have a fulfilled account, I agree. But with an unfulfilled account it is an ok deal even without free shipping:
Suppose one bought two $34.95 MSRP titles, one for fulfillment, the other free. The total cost would be $31.19. Less $15 for the fulfillment credit the cost would be about $16, for an average cost of about $8 each. Sure, it would be better with free shipping, but that's not bad for otherwise expensive BD titles such as The Princess Bride IMO.
Edit:
Actually, the numbers come out to about $10 rather than $8 because the lack of free shipping throws off the calculations somewhat:
Enrollment:
6 x 49¢ + $9.95 = $12.89 (7 DVDs)
Fulfillment, using $34.95 MSRP BDs:
$26.21 + (free BD) + $26.21 + (free BD) + $8.96 (shipping) = $61.38 (4 BDs)
Total:
$12.89 + $61.38 = $74.27 (7 DVDs plus 4 BDs)
Average relative cost of BDs:
($74.27 - ($4.80 x 7))/4 = ($74.27 - $33.60)/4 = $40.67/4 = $10.1675
Still a decent deal for $34.95 MSRP BDs. It would be less for $28.95 or $29.95 MSRP BDs and more for $39.95 MSRP BDs, of course.
And, before someone says it, yes, I know that many BD buyers have no interest in buying DVDs and are proud of that fact. But I opened a new membership a month ago precisely so I could fulfill it with BDs, as new titles of interest became available over the next few months.

Re: B1G1F on Blu-ray Discs, through 3/8/09
Dang, I read from someone on here that Columbia House was doing away with the B1G1 FREE with blurays. Just last week I ordered 3 blurays and used a the B1G1 and picked regular dvds. Do you think it is possible to cancel what I have only received one of the discs so far. Any opinions on sending them back, maybe just right return to sender, or should i try to call and just change my free discs to blurays?

No way to know for sure. I'd call them and see if they are willing to let you swap titles for this deal, or cancel what has not shipped yet. But I wouldn't recommend refusing what you ordered. You don't want to get blacklisted.

Woohoo. I have been keeping an unfulfilled account open and stocking my wishlist with new releases, waiting for a Blu-ray B1G1.
Sure, it's not the BEST deal around, since there's no free shipping. But it's a decent deal, and relatively easy. Easier than hunting around for one title at a time, checking prices every week for the best deal.
Plus, since I only had 2 pre-orders, I get the bonus of opening a box full of lots of Blu-rays. It's like a little Christmas all over again.

I am one of those people, but that doesn't stop me. I open TV club accounts. I will gladly take two TV sets for $9.95, and fulfill with B1G1 BD deals such as this. Unfortunately, I already fulfilled my account. But I just applied for a new account, and hopefullly it will be approved before this deal ends.

Another HDL TV Club man. I just got Doctor Who Series 4 and Reaper and I'm now ready to fulfill with some Blu-rays.

I could not believe DW was available as an enrollment! That's gotta be the best bargain there!

I submitted the application late in the evening on a Monday and received the Welcome to the Club! email early Thursday morning. So it took about 60 hours until I was able to sign in on the site.

Gotta say after joining FOR this deal, waiting for this deal, getting excited when the e-mail showed up this morning......really disappointing to see I am still paying $30 after shipping and tax for catalog titles that are normally about $15.99 at Amazon.
Would really like it to work with box sets too so I could get Bourne & Batman. Anyhow, glad it works for some of you!

Thanks for the info. If they approve apps on weekends, I might be OK. If not, I'm probably screwed getting to fulfill my account with this code...

You gotta learn to just buy the ones from CH that average out the best deal you can find. The ones you can get cheaper from Amazon just get them from Amazon. I wanted Little Miss Sunshine and it was 25 bucks plus tax everywhere I looked. I also somewhat wanted Silence of the Lambs and besides it having a crappy case and seeming half-assed it too is averaging about 25 bucks or more. I'm getting both of these from CH for a bit over 30. This is the type of scenario that makes these CH Blu-Ray sales ideal. I also plan on pre-ordering Final Destination and taking A History of Violence for free. Even if I don't get free shipping on both of those it will come out right at 26 dollars for a 13 apiece average which is better than I'll get anywhere else for a new copy of these movies. And Slumdog will be mine before this sale is over.

Re: B1G1F on Blu-ray Discs, through 3/8/09
Well, I went all-in. Had two accounts to fulfill, so I ended up getting a total of 8 Blu-rays: Slumdog Millionaire, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Cadillac Records, Milk, Lakeview Terrace, W., Raging Bull, and The French Connection. Grand total of $147.42 with NY tax and shipping, average of $18.42 each. Nothing to write home about, but lower prices than average (and lower than I'd get at the bi-annual 20% off sales) and those accounts are done.

This is just okay, imo. I looked through and the cheapest you'll get the these is about $15 each plus the S&H. That is for Blu-rays like Reservoir Dogs and Total Recall, which have a "bargain" price point of $10.

That's life with Columbia House: you are either willing to cycle accounts or you end up paying a LOT more for the convenience of not cycling.
