Spinal Tap to Tour and Release new album
According to Billboard.com, SPINAL TAP will embark on a 30-date concert tour this spring. The six-week theater trek, dubbed "Unwigged & Unplugged: An Evening with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer", kicks off April 17 in Vancouver and runs through May 31 in Milwaukee. Tickets go on sale starting Friday (March 6).
The trio is in the midst of recording a new SPINAL TAP album that will be released May 26 and feature the "original studio versions" of the live songs on "This is Spinal Tap" and some new songs — including the ironically titled "Short and Sweet", a 20-minute epic to which they're "adding stellar guitar player (guest) as we speak," according to Michael McKean.

This is Spinal Tap is my favorite comedy of all time. That said, almost nothing they've done as a band since the film has been even remotely as hilarious. It was a perfect melding of talent and timing that just can't be repeated.

"We've never gone out as ourselves," Shearer said Monday during a webcast teleconference at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. "It's interesting; after playing characters all these years, we're having meetings trying to figure out who WE are...We have to ask ourselves, 'What would WE do?'"

They've done shows before, I saw them back in high school. It was before A Mighty Wind had come out, and they opened for themselves as The Folksmen. It was actually better than the Spinal Tap performance. I'm not sure I'll bother this time around.

If I hadn't bought Flight of the Conchords tickets already, I'd probably snatch up a couple of tickets to the Phoenix show.
But, between a mini-vacation at the end of this month and a couple of other nonessential expenditures in the near future, I just can't justify spending the money.
Bummer for me.

Re: Spinal Tap to Tour and Release new album
I was kind of hoping for an actual Spinal Tap tour since I missed them in 1992.
But it should still be interesting. I plan on attending the Chicago show.
Maybe they'll do an electric set in the middle of the acoustic show. It's kind of backwards from what most bands do so it would fit the Spinal Tap motif perfectly.

I saw the show on Tuesday, I had a permanent smile on my face. Think up some good questions for the Q&A session if you go.

Re: Spinal Tap to Tour and Release new album
Saw the Boston show on Saturday---what a great time!
I was very pleasantly surprised to hear "Corn Wine", "This Bulging River" and "The Good Book" (not sure if that's the title--from Mighty Wind). Aside from the fun, what really gets you while watching these guys is what good musicians they are---I didn't hear a wrong note all night. But yes, as sauce07 said, my face actually got sore from smiling the whole show.

I also was at the Boston (aka "Gateway to Lowell") show on Saturday. Surprisingly good! I thought it would be amusing at first, but then get a little old after a while. But not the case - even at two hours long, they kept it rolling right along.
I also liked that they paused in the middle of the show and took questions from the audience. Good fun!
