This is supposed to be a biggie, if the preview is to be believed. If you're watching the Oscars, don't forget to tape/DVR it.

We finally get to see how the family functions without any interaction with extended family, business interests, or political enemies.
This episode felt like a mid-season wrap-up, as we got closure (or at least reminders) on multiple strands dating back to the very first episode of the series. Ben-Margie, Bill's Viagra, Nicki's birth control, Margie's mother, and Sarah's pregnancy all within one great episode. Goodwin was particularly great tonight, especially in the
scenes.
What a conclusion. The final ten minutes were the best I've seen from a television series in a very long time. Poor Sarah. When Sarah cries, grrr cries.

Yeah Sarah pulled at the heart strings this week. From her giddiness (she was so unbelievably cute in that scene) at the idea of spending time alone with her father to her losing the baby.
Bill beginning to lose his faith was was good as well.

I really enjoyed this episode because it was all about what I do like about this show: the family and how they relate to each other.
I really don't like this show when it focuses on all the weirdos on the compound, so this was episode was a huge breath of fresh air for me. I have felt like this season has been too much of the compound politics already.

Another classic episode. Really wonderful acting all around and very touching.
"Am I being a pill?"
Yeah, that was a little unfortunate casting, especially so soon off the 30 Rock appearance. At first, I thought he was appearing as himself for the talent show. They should have put someone less recognisable in that part. Does this mean that Tracy Morgan will play that role in the Big Love movie?
"Am I being a pill?"
Holy shit! It was Mac from Night Court!

I haven't seen this ep yet but I kinda agree. I'm tired of Bill's back and forth between Roman and Albi. That said, I say "kinda agree" because while I don't care for Bill's back and forth stuff and his screwing around with Compound Politics, I still enjoy the Compound's main characters.

I love this show. What a great episode.
at Margene getting Bill started for Nikki.
Great to see Mac from Night Court, even if he was playing a Baptist.

Seriously, if you had a wife like Margene you wouldn't need any others. What a great character.
What's endearing about this show is that this family loves each other. Say what you will about their beliefs, and how "odd" they may be, this family is there when they are in dire straights. They find out their daughter had a miscarriage, which means she was having unprotected sex without being married, and their first thought is to comfort her. They didn't say "how could you do this to me," but instead realized that she was in pain and needed them. What a great scene. Even Nikki was fantastic and stepped up to help Sarah.

If that happens I would be very disappointed with the writers. Margene is nothing if not devoted to Bill and to this family. I truly believe she doesn't see Ben as anything but a son.

Sounded like Mormon Mecca, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

I read about it in the book Under The Banner of Heaven. It's a huge show that Mormons come from all over to see every summer. Tens of thousands decend on this small town to see the show. I forgot where it was or what the show was called.
edit: It's called "Spectacle at Hill Cumorah" in Palmyra, N.Y.
It must be a zoo when they all descend on that place.

Fantastic episode & a well-timed & needed change of pace from the compound/casino/Anna/neighborhood storylines. Good decision of the producers to take a break from the battles on the home front.
Agree that this was a pivotal episode in bringing many family secrets out in the open (at least to parts of the family). Also agree that there's almost zero chance of Margie hooking up with Ben...the writers have avoided these typical soap-opera shenanigans so far, and kudos for giving Margie the opportunity to assert herself in an appropriate way (a sign that Margie is maturing). The jury's still out for Nikki's flirtation...although I expect that Nikki will flee if things get too serious.
A lesser show would have had Bill turn around & see the "angel" floating above him & have him see it as an omen. Here it was just ironic.
What a touching ending. Notice how there was no music over the end credits? I thought that showed incredible taste & empathy on the part of the producers. It's amazing how they have taken a fringe group (by the way, that was a very realistic confrontation between the preacher & Bill) and made them characters that the audience can care about even if the audience finds their beliefs to be odd/misguided.

exactly... What another great episode. The key to the greatness of the show is the family, especially when all 3 wives are interacting. The compound stuff is decent but pales when compared to Margene, Barb, and Nicki being on the screen.

And wow, those scenes with Sarah were heartbreaking, but with a positive resolution.

This was such a great episode. Bill questioning his faith with the angel rising and the light behind him was great. Besides that, he was "looking for God's presence" throughout the trip, when He was everywhere. Nearly everything that happened can have the connotation of God intervening to clear the family of all their potentially dangerous secrets, so the family can move forward without the burden of them.
Nearly every character's flaws or secrets were exposed to the family, only to have the exposure of the ultimate secret (the pregnancy) bring them all back together.
Bill's pills, Margie's mom, Nikki's flirtation, Ben's infatuation, Bill's religious pompousness, Nikki's selfishness, and Margie's immaturity all were wiped clean (though I suppose Nikki's flirtation could come back up). Nikki's selfishness has always been an issue on the show, and yet it is she who is with Sara during the miscarriage and who volunteers to tell the others what happened. Similarly, Margie has always been playful and flirtatious, all the way up to the scene in the motel with Nikki and Bill, but when she is confronted with the repercussions of that with the letter from Ben, we see her step up and be the mother figure she needs to be.
Bill wanted his family to have an epic religious experience, which they did, but because it was an apparent religious intervention, Bill doesn't see it.
I'm not remotely religious myself, but I felt this way about this episode right away.

Maybe "wiped clean" is the wrong phrase, but all these issues were brought to light, so they could be dealt with. Certainly there needs to be some source of conflict within the family, or it would be a pretty boring (and unrealistic) show, but I feel these events were brought into the open in this episode as examples of God's intervention in their lives.

Re: Big Love #30 : "Come, Ye Saints" 2/22/09
I know as a plot device and character development we had to see Margie finally act as an adult and get that angry but to me it seemed somewhat hypocritical. I'm glad that she finally confronted the situation since she pretty much had too, but can't you really blame Ben. I mean seeing her naked wasn't the first weird situation they were put in(by the way was that really Ginny hiney we saw, i'm guessing it was a stand in). Haven't we seen them wrestle around in the house and by the pool(and come on what 16 yr old wouldn't fall in love with her after wrestling with her in a bikini). It seemed at one time even Barbara seemed uncomfortable about their actions toward one another. Again, i get why she had to assert herself at that specific time with that occurrence but she kinda put at least a little fuel on Ben's infatuation fire.
I agree with everyone though i honestly think the writers are too good to touch the two of them actually having an affair. So far the actions between the two are somewhat realistic, and with the loyalty that Margie has for Bill and the family I really think it would go against her character to do something like that.
I don't think most shows could pull off an episode like that, wrapping up loose ends or setting up future plot points(i know Smallville can never do it without the episode sucking) but to me it was one of the best episodes of the series.
