It appears that tonight's episode is actually episode 4. 5 will air next week and 3 will air the following week.

Not only are the episodes out of order but certain scenes (mostly involving Paul Ballard) within the episodes have been altered, reshuffled to other episodes or cut to account for the new order.

Why are they doing this? The series is shaky as it is, why mess with continuity and further muddy the waters?

Thats too bad to hear. Its probably why I dont enjoy the show too much. Its trying to be like all those other generic shit FOX shows that take itself too seriously. I cant stand Prison Break, Terminator and all those because of that. Though I do dig 24
Ive been watching Painkiller Jane recentley and I like it alot more than Dullhouse.

I could barely stand to get through last week's episode (and I enjoyed most of Buffy, loved Angel, and reveled in Firefly - also really liked Tru Calling). The acting from everyone was terrible, including Eliza. The plot was dull - I turned to my wife and asked her if we should continue at the half way point.
I'll probably give it 2 episodes more and then turn it off for good if they can't come up with something better.
From the sounds of this, it's not going to happen - especially if Fox is dicking around with the episodes themselves.

WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?! FOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Do not screw us again. You did the SAME thing to Firefly, and now you are doing it again to Dollhouse. Granted, all of Firefly's episodes were much better than the Dollhouse Pilot, but this show deserves a shot too. Airing them out of order is so stupid and is not a way to gain fans and have people stick with the show. If it doesn't make sense, people aren't going to want to continue to watch it. I am going to keep watching and hoping we don't have another Firefly debacle, but I am less than optimistic. And here I thought FOX's new management was going to give Whedon a break this time around...
EDIT: Poor, beautiful Amy Acker...

Screw Fox... switching up the episodes? Bull. This episode is confusing me, though I am enjoying it. Is it because of the fact its out of order or is it this episode itself? Guess I'll find out on DVD.

Are we 100% sure this episode is #4? Because when I check TV.Com and IMDB, I see no mention of this being Episode 4...
Either way, it is much better than last weeks. Also, for what it's worth, I was reading an interview with Whedon and he said it was HIS decision to reshoot a new Pilot, not the studios.

Well, whether or not it was aired out of order, I was able to follow it and it was MUCH better than last week's episode; it kept me engaged this time around. Found it fun, exciting, tense, and funny at times as well.
They also gave a better backstory to Echo and the Dollhouse. Really glad to see Amy Acker too...although like I posted above, those terrible scars on her face...
Good to see some more information on Alpha, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he really isn't exactly a typical bad guy, despite what he seems to have done in the past. I could be wrong, but maybe he was trying to kill all the Actives to prevent them from going through something terrible that he had to go through.
Nice shot at the end as well, with that guy and Dushku, and her hitting her arm...starting to remember, etc.
I'll definitely tune in the next two weeks to see Episodes 5 and 3 (it'll be nice to see if Episodes 4 and 5 make more sense after seeing Episode 3), but out of curiosity, what was Episode 2? Unless we are saying the Premiere is technically Episode 2...?

Re: Dollhouse -- "Target" -- 2/20/09
Now THIS is what I wanted to see. It's far from Buffy/Angel/Firefly level, but it actually pulled me in and made me really anxious to learn more about the goings on. Plus the "A" plot just kicked ass. The promo doesn't look that exciting, but if it keeps this up, I'll stick around for quite awhile.

Even though it was out of order, it didn't bother me too much. I really enjoyed this episode much more than last weeks. This doesn't feel like a story arc centered show so I don't think it'll be too hard to follow if its out of order.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. The backstory was intriguing and I'm digging the Boyd/Echo relationship. The Ballard scenes weren't originally meant for this episode. At least one scene was from the original pilot and the others were reshoots.
