Re: good deals in canada

I may be interested in the Wire and Matrix sets. Is the packaging the same as the US version. Any differences at all. TIA.

Bilingual packaging?
French language tracks?

"pretty much the same" is often in the eye of the beholder...

Re: good deals in canada

TV series and films are different animals. You won't see bilingual packaging on US TV series, except if a series is bought and broadcast on a french canadian channel (or in France), then it might get it's on own release later down the line, like "Lost" for example. In this case, Amazon.ca will carry both the original release (US packaging), and the bilingual release which says "PERDUS/LOST" on the cover. So, don't worry about "The Wire", it's the US release, i.e. identical packaging.

"The Matrix" just has a sticker which states that a french version (audio) is included.

Re: good deals in canada

www.chcanada.com is having some great prices. It's an offshoot of Columbia House but you only have to buy 2 titles to fulfill your committment... They charge a joining fee but right now they're waiving it...Shipping prices aren't half bad either. They have a lot of newer BLU-RAY titles going for just $13.99 (Changeling, Madagascar 2, W, Body of Lies). I'm not sure about the speed of service but I just ordered Changeling and Body of Lies for $36 total shipped - that is pretty damn good...and since I've bought 2 movies, I can now cancel at any time (but with prices like those, I'll probably stick around). (I thought I'd mention this here because I know a lot of members might be scared to venture into the dvd clubs forum....)

Re: good deals in canada

Wow,I just checked out that site...they have ALOT of new releases for $13.99 CAD, which is $11.11 USD...and if you buy 3 or more titles, it's a flat rate of 5.99 CAD shipping...too good to be true?? You don't have to live in Canada to join, I'd imagine??

From the FAQ:

Do you ship outside Canada?
No, we only ship within Canada.

Thanks. Just ordered "Body of Lies", "Changeling" and "W" blu-rays for $54.12 shipped. We'll see if they can keep up these prices on new releases...

Re: good deals in canada

Not really a "deal", but I'm starting to get more titles at Blockbusters since they have their Movie Buyer's Bonus. Buy $50 is new or used movies and get $5 coupon.. Better's than Bestbuy Rewardzone that you have to spend $400 for $5 off..

Blockbusters release day prices are normally not too bad compared to other places..

Re: good deals in canada

I was so close to The Wire when Amazon.com had it where it would work out to around $130 CDN, I just can't turn it down for just a bit over $100 CDN. I haven't seen the separate seasons go below $25 + tax each.

My most expensive blind buy ever so hope I like it. If not I should be able to sell it for around the same price I paid anyway.

Using the promo code "MAPNEWNCSAVE" from excentris above, you can get it for 85.55 shipped. You must create an account under Amazon.ca though. You can't use your Amazon.com account if you want to apply the code. On the border, but I'll pass. Probably regret it like I did before, but too much money spent lately.

I think Corey31 is Canadian (Location: Ontario, Canada)

With coupon would make it $92.99 + tax.

Re: good deals in canada

So no good deals in Canada recently?

I saw the Land of Giants boxset at HMV for $19.XX CDN (from their retail price of $300).. It was at their flagship store and had about 9 copies.. Didn't know much about the series, but might pick it up if I see it next time..

Re: good deals in canada

I just got a great deal from canada. the 10 disc box set of the 1980's showtime adult sketch comedy series "bizarre" 10 discs with 10 episodes each, 100 episodes total and the are the uncensored episodes as originally shown on showtime with all the language and nudity intact. $49 canadian wich works out to about $39 u.s. with free shipping to the u.s. I got mine from cdplus.com. it was back-ordered and took me a month for them to get it in stock, but still a great deal.

Re: good deals in canada

Noticed a couple of possibly good deals in Best Buy today. They have the X-Men Blu-Ray box (3-discs per movie, plus Canadian movie cash) on sale for $49.99. That compares favourably to the price on Amazon's U.S. site (from which I usually order thanks to a U.S. mailbox).

And they had a bunch of $3.99 DVDs on sale that looked quite decent. The one that really jumped out was the Valley of the Dolls SE. Probably worth a look for those who have a store nearby.

I'm not sure if it was the same one you noticed, but saw a $3.99 section today, but nothing seems to jump out..

The had Cleopatra 2525 for $14.99 which I remember seeing some eps on TV, worth a blind buy.. I think there was some other $14.99 TV series, but forgot to note them down..

Re: good deals in canada

The Star Trek Blu-Ray Movies Collection (7 discs) is $79.99 at Best Buy (Canada) this week. Compares favourably to the U.S. Amazon price. Sets have a black t-shirt strapped to the package with (I think) the original series cast members screened on it. Plenty in stock at two stores I visited.
