Slumdog Millionaire - March 31st
I was in Target today and they were running an ad on their in house TV's about Slumdog Millionaire coming to DVD/Blu-ray Feb 24th.
Amazon, however, has no date yet:
http://www.amazon.com/Slumdog-Millio...4497725&sr=8-1
Anyone know?
EDIT: okay, it's officially March 31st.

That doesn't sound right at all.
That said, it's already available on hotel room "on demand". A few pages before "Mother Daughter Tag Team, Synopsis: Train Wreck.".

No way is this coming out in the US on 2/24. I would expect it to be released in late March or sometime in April. Once the film wins Best Picture, Director, and several other Oscars, they'll want to leave it in theaters for a few more weeks before releasing it on home video.

That may have been the plan when they prepped the feed that they sent out to Target, but we would have heard something announcing this title, especially since it has been receiving such critical acclaim.

I'll assume that was the date before they know they were going to get nominated for a ton of awards.
Generally they'll go for one last big weekend at the box office the weekend before the Oscars.

March 31st sounds more likely, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if they at least tried to quickly push it forward:

LONDON: Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire, a rags-to-riches story of a Mumbai street boy, is set to become one of the most counterfeited movies
of all time, anti-piracy experts have warned.
The black market of DVD is flooded with illegal copies of the film, which won seven British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday and is still running packed in cinema halls.
In the UK, the film, currently is the highest grosser. But pirate versions are already being sold in London for 1 pound to 2.50 pounds each, a report in a city based tabloid 'London Lite' claimed on Tuesday.
Eddy Leviten of the Federation of Copyright Theft said that "Any new release is camcordered and duplicated straightaway. But Slumdog Millionaire has real global mass appeal and is going to be targeted on another level."
He said "It is a film that has used some relatively unknown talents on a modest budget and all those who worked on it deserve not be cheated."

re: Slumdog Millionaire - March 31st
there were many sites that had a Feb date
my guess is the studio held this one back once it started gaining awards momentum and opened in more theaters and is now playing to a wider audience

re: Slumdog Millionaire - March 31st
It's a British film first and foremost. I mean, Boyle intermixed English with Hindi throughout, and India has the second-largest number of English speakers in the world (surpassing even the UK with 90 million vs. 58 million). I think that the look of the subtitles is unlikely to change at all from the theatrical version.

I was just asking since the subtitles jump and are displayed all over the screen, and might pose a problem for those with tvs/monitor's under 24 inches.
