Galaxy Quest - Deluxe Edition >> May 10th 2009

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced a deluxe edition of Galaxy Quest which stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman. The Dean Parisot directed film will be available to own from the 12th May. Extras will include featurettes (Historical Documents: The Story of Galaxy Quest, Never Give Up. Never Surrender: The Intrepid Crew of the NSEA Protector, By Grabthar's Hammer, What Amazing Effects, Alien School - Creating the Thermian Race, Actors in Space), a Thermian Audio Track, deleted scenes, a Sigourney Raps feature, and the theatrical trailer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tie in to Star Trek? Nice.
Not as nice: no commentary, terrible cover artwork, and no Blu-Ray.

"Thermian Audio Track" sounds like a waste of space.
Other than the names not lining up with the correct actors, I'd like the cover art if they removed the two little aliens.
I'd definitely get it on Blu-ray; not sure if I'll get this release or wait.

I wish they would release the film as it was shown in theaters - 1.85:1 at the beginning then 2.35:1 after the outer space reveal.

Is the "The True Hollywood Story" type documentary they did for the Sci-Fi channel on this? I don't recall what it was actually called, since they didn't use THS.

Well that sucks. I never bought the original release knowing another "deluxe" would be out eventually. This just sounds underwhelming. Blu-Ray would be a no-brainer for me.

Why re-release a movie like this today if you're not going to put out a Blu-ray? Makes no sense...

Bitch, bitch, bitch. Why dont we have one long thread for people to bitch about certain titles NOT coming to Blu-ray. Seriously have a thread called "Titles coming to DVD but not on Blu" or whatever and just have a bitch fest. It would make things alot easier and save time for people who dont want to read the same "boo-hoo this isnt coming to Blu-ray" comments over and over and over. You wanna know why some titles dont come out on Blu and only on DVD. Well allow me to educate you. Its cause studios are wary to put out many titles on a format that sells far less than its DVD counterpart.

A 9 year wait for a Deluxe DVD when the current DVD was already pretty loaded? You got patience!

That being said, I never owned the original either but might have picked up the Blu if available.

But actually, if they come here (and check their sales figures to boot), I'm sure they'll realize that even most of us DVD geeks don't care two shits about blu-ray. Until they give away Blu-ray players and HDTVs, and can guarantee a quick and easy set-up as great as the one in-store...I'll pass. DVD is good enough for me.
