Predators (Antal, 07/09/10)
i searched and didn't find anything, but thought it would be of interest...

While the concept of Aliens vs. Predators is universally loved by fanboys across the globe, the two flicks that adapted said concept have been less than stellar, to say the least.
Another film may now be in the works, but this time looks to focus only on the Predators.
The folks at Bloody Disgusting have received word, through a “reliable source”, that Robert Rodriquez and his Troublemaker Studios will be producing a Predator reboot for 20th Century Fox.
The first Predator hit the screen in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Kevin Peter Hall. The story followed an elite team on a mission to rescue hostages from a guerrilla group in Central America. John McTiernan (Die Hard) directed.
A sequel starring Danny Glover opened in 1990 followed by the aforementioned mash-up flicks several years later. While the original only featured one Predator, the potential reboot looks to up the number of the ass-kicking species.
There’s still no script and it’s unclear if Rodriquez would also direct

We've got a holy sh*t scoop for you that's going to have half of you screaming in excitement and the other throwing tomatoes. A reliable source dropped us a line revealing to us that Robert Rodriquez and his Troublemaker Studios will be producing the Predator reboot for 20th Century Fox. Now here' the kicker, the pitch being sent around town implies that the reboot will have more than one predator. "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." No writer has been attached yet - and there is no script. No word on whether or not Rodriquez will direct, but it seems highly unlikely considering how many projects he has in development.

Predator "less than stellar"? Hell, I really even enjoy Predator 2 quite a bit.
And even though I'm not a fan of the Alien films all too much, calling the first two "less than stellar" is reaching.
A reboot was inevitable.

The second one was very enjoyable; it made sense to go in the other direction with a regular cop as opposed to an elite commando. I really liked the proposed ideas of Arnold and Glover going to the Predator world and participating in gauntlets as the only two humans to have killed Predators. That or going back in time to a colonial period.
Really, is a reboot necessary? Wouldn't a sequel be better in that it's still the same basic concept, just not the same entire process?

I like both, but never saw the need the need for a crossover, let alone a reboot.
I could easily see another Predator film being good if done right.
And based on the "no writer, no script, no word on director"... It's all vaporware.

When Predator 2 first came out, I thought it sucked.
I watched it some 13 years later and liked it, then I saw AVP and it made me LOVE Predator 2.

It's calling the 2 Alien vs. Predator films less than stellar. Not the Predator movies.

Hrm...a new Predator film, ie a sequel I guess, would be better. Predator one was fine as is. It is what it is. No matter what though...there aren't that many manly men to literally compare to the group from the first flick. What i'd like to see is a bunch of very good actors, let's just use Christian Bale for ex, in a flick like this. I mean..it'd be different visualization using ppl who COULD literally look like real commandos in the real world.

all I remember is the ending, some gary busey (who annoyed me), very very little of the beginning, and the Predator bandaging or whatever to himself in a restroom.

How about Predator vs. SkyNet? Have the Predators ally with John Connor and friends to destroy SkyNet, which has sent out its probes to the far reaches of the galaxy? I'd like to see a Predator throw down with a T-1000.

So now that sequels aren't enough, Hollywood is just going to remake everything...

Films such as this and Friday the 13th have absolutely no need for "remakes". At their core, they're not overly deep stories.. as I said with Jason- just put him in the woods killing teenagers and it's another film. Why bother calling it anything but? Same concept with Predator.. be there one or many.

I actually don't have a problem with a 'reboot' of this, considering there isn't a need for continuity in this series and the reboot is more or less a sequel. This is assuming, of course, they don't call the lead Dutch and make it a direct remake.
I'm not sure about the 'multiple predators' possibility, though. It kind of takes away what makes the original effective because you either have to make those predators less effective hunters or you have to make the humans overly powerful.

Antonio Banderas and Danny Trejo as the two lead Predators, with Bruce Willis as the lead commando?! I'm in! ...
Seriously, with Rodriguez at the helm (hopefully) at least we can be assured that the reboot will have a decent amount of gore, which is just what a reboot needs.

What exactly are they "rebooting"? We know nothing about the Predators from the movies, their homeworld, their origins or whatever. They were just there.
Hollywood might be calling it a "reboot" but it sounds like it's just another Predator movie, which I'm fine with.
