That is awesome. Taken was so blisteringly badass.
I love a world where a movie where Oskar Schindler beats the living shit out of Paris and an entire sex-slave faction is #1 at the box office.

My Bloody Vaentine didn't stick around that long. I wonder if that will kill the horror movies in 3D fad.

So, let me guess... you really didn't like the movie? With last weeks box office, you mention how it disappointed in its SECOND week. The movie cost around 20 million, it's made 41 million domestic, I think studios would be more than okay with that.

At least MBV didnt have Notorious-like drops. $20 million its first weekend. $5 million its second weekend. 1.5 million its 3rd weekend.
Looks like Fox continues to have a great month. Not really happy about it at all considering its only another excuse for Fox to take R-rated material and make it into PG-13 without thinking twice. (Plus it's is only 90 minutes so thumbs down.) I'll rent the Unrated Version (or should I say the actual Director's version) when it hits DVD.
Its shocking how little people seem to care about the Oscar-nominated films this year and how its not helping Milk, The Reader or Frost/Nixon nearly at all. I was hoping and thinking Milk could do Brokeback Mountain numbers and thought it would at least get to $60 million. It seems to be a crowd pleaser and it had great marketing so not really sure why it lost momentum.

I haven't seen that large of a push for Milk as far as commercials and ads go. I've seen a lot for the Reader lately, and Gran Torino probably had more marketing then all the other nominees.

I way underestimated Taken, and I am ok with that. Great movie.
My Bloody Valentine's per screen average is still pretty good in the 3D theaters. It has lost most of the 2D theaters, which is fine, cannot imagine it was any fun there anyway.

I have seen a ton of ads for Milk lately, far more than The Reader (which I've also seen plenty for). Gran Torino did have more marketing, and it paid off in spades (seriously, who saw that movie being a $100m+ grosser?), it's also in nearly 3x the theaters that The Reader is in and nearly 4x that of Milk. That said, Clint Eastwood as a racist/grouchy old man with a death wish has a little more appeal than an illiterate nazi and a flamboyant civil rights leader.

That having been said, it has taken a long time for the films you mentioned to reach the "smaller" markets. The area in which I live is one such market, and Frost/Nixon reached here one week ago. The Reader just arrived yesterday, and Milk is still nowhere to be seen. I believe that has a large bearing on the numbers, as I know people who would like to see these films, but were unable to do so.
