No Country for Old Men - Double-Dip! - 4/7/09
No Country For Old Men will make a return visit to Blu-ray Disc on April 7 in a new two-disc collector's edition offered day-and-date with a new three-disc DVD version.
My best guess is the double-dip release will tie into the home video debut of Miramax's Doubt on Blu-ray. The two films not only share a publisher but also were/are nominated for Academy Awards. No Country For Old Men scored a coveted Best Picture Oscar while Doubt was just nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress (two noms!) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The No Country For Old Men: Collector's Edition Blu-ray will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio at 24kHz/24-bit.
Almost all of the bonus features in this set are brand new with the exception of three ported from the previous Blu-ray Disc and DVD release. The inclusive digital copy is the first time this feature has been offered on a title by Miramax.

Great to see Disney is really digging into their vaults and bringing us new catalog titles to enjoy. Oh Wait. With nearly the same amount of titles released in 2008 on Blu-ray as Universal (which started releasing in July), we get a double-dip so soon? Ugh.

In case no one has noticed, Disney has switched over the DTS MA now for lossless instead of TrueHD (or PCM in No Countrys case). I'm prety sure they won't be using either of those audio codecs any longer.

Sweet! I've been holding off on double dipping my SD copy because I had a nagging feeling that a new SE was in the works. Glad my procrastination paid off!

I would have been happier if they released Shakespeare in Love on BD to tie in with Doubt. Since...ya know....Shakespeare in Love hasn't been released on BD.

I would've been happy if this was tied in with Fargo or Miller's Crossing or O Brother Where Art Thou?
At least we have The Big Lebowski... Thank God for HD DVD.

I was really tempted to re-buy this when I got a BD player, but I couldn't justify it. Now that this new edition is coming out, I might reconsider.

I don't care much, because I don't double dip just for extras, but this is going to take the place of something else that could have been released.

This did not "take the place of another relaese". If anything, it generates more money for Miramax so that they can maybe do a better job on future releases of catalogue titles.

I don't think many of you have any idea of how much effort the first Blu-ray release of a title takes. Releasing a second Blu-ray version of a previously-released film with new extras is significantly easier than restoring and/or remastering another movie.

The digital copy banner will not be on the final version of the cover art. Disney always blows up their descriptions on their ads to make them clearer. They have done it many times in the past.
While i'm a bit sour on this double dip, I do love that list of features and I will bite again. I'm sure I can get a decent amount for my old disc if I sell it soon.
