Does FYE still take trade-ins on HD-DVDs?

Just wondering. Looking to get some cash for them.

According to their trade-in website (Wherehouse.com) they still do take HD-DVDs. Expect around $2-3 each for them.

Have a list though? I'm looking to boost my collection.

Got Twister or Music and Lyrics by any chance? What else you got? You'll certainly get more than what FYE will give you.

They do not. I have a second copy of Apollo 13 that I tried to dump two weeks ago and they wouldn't accept it.

Does DVDPlanet or DVDSpin (I think that's what its called) take them? I have a handful of common HD DVDs, BDs and DVDs I'd like to dump all at once and have never done the 'send them to us and get credit for our website' before.

Re: Does FYE still take trade-ins on HD-DVDs?

I tried to sell a few about a month ago, and they were willing to take them at first (they quote me prices on them) but a manager came by and said "No, no, we can't take ones in red cases."

The amounts were in the $1-4 range, so it wasn't worth me trading in anyways. The system didn't seem to have a problem giving quotes though! (this could have changed since I was there last though).

Probably a manager's decision not to carry them (hard to sell?).

I've been trading some in to DVDPlanet. I'm surprised at some of the titles they don't quote on. Most they do are either $2 or $3 credit. If it's worth at least $4 on half.com I go that route. Any less than that, by the time I buy the envelope and pay for tracking, it doesn't pay to end up with $2. Easier just to take all those $2 titles, make one trip to the PO and get enough to get one BD title I want.

Yeah, I'll have to wait until their next 20% extra sale I keep hearing about. I have a huge stack of 30-40 DVDs (replaced them with BD/HD) that sell for $2 or less on Half.com and its simply not worth the time to sell them for that much considering envelopes etc. If I can dump them and pay for 2-4 BDs I'll be happy. That stack only gets bigger by the week...

Don't wait until the sale. Last time they had the sale at Christmas they took an entire month to process my order and mysteriously and coincidentally processed it the day after the sale ended.

Re: Does FYE still take trade-ins on HD-DVDs?

Hmm...maybe I'll do it now then. I'll have to put together a bunch of them and see what they offer.

edit: Do I have to sign in to get prices for trades? I'm at DVDPlanet.com and don't see any information on trades

There are a lot listed on ebay. And ebay is usually good for determining the value of something. Even dumb titles usually sell for at least 5 bucks.

Big difference between calling a local place and asking them if they take HD DVDs or calling DVDPlanet and asking a clerk who gets $7 an hour to show me on their poorly designed website where I can get quotes (hint: I had to google it and find a thread from 2 years ago where it was listed). After finding out a brand new BD release was worth $5.99 trade-in value I stopped caring about them.

That's why I only trade in titles that are practically worthless. If DVDP is offering $6 they'll fetch twice that on half.com. If they'll still give me $2 - $3 for them I can trade in 10 -12 and get a BD I want. With the cost of the envelope and the tracking coming out of my pocket, anything less than $4 at half.com is not worth it. I'm better off taking the pittance that DVDPlanet offers vs. the pittance the market offers and save myself the aggravation by only going to the PO once. Some on half.com are being offered for 75¢. Dude, the padded envelopes are 50¢. Everything else is being dumped in a big box for the library.

This is the best choice, IMHO. I just donated about 100 titles (DVD) to my library. The library was stoked to add to their collection, and I got a tax write-off.
