Never say never again - is a special edition of this movie in the works?

I was looking around in YOU TUBE and found a few on location features on the 1983 James Bond movie NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN.
Also found that there was a title song sung by Phyillis Hyman that was not used. It sounded better than the one that was in the movie.
Anybody know if there is a special edition of this movie in the works?

It wouldn't surprise me if one came out sometime down the road. Then again, it wouldn't aurprise me if it didn't. The film is an anomaly. Anything can happen.

Re: Never say never again - is a special edition of this movie in the works?

It would be hard to make a special edition due to the legal problems this film has had.

In fact, it was a Warner Brothers film that MGM acquired distribution rights for in 2003. Sadly, it was only to complete the James Bond library that they had built at that time.

The DVD has no studio logos whatsoever anywhere on the cover. The only way to identify this as an MGM release was the "grid' and "screen format box" on the back.

Which would mean that despite MGM wanting it for their Bond library, they do not want to associate with it. This film is the reason why SPECTRE was replaced with QUANTUM in the latest movie.

Of all the "Bond" movies that I'd like a SE of, this is one of them.

Not so much because I like the movie, its just "Thunderball" warmed over. However I find the "older" Bond and how he has adapted to the change in political climate since the 1960's to be interesting.

This movie needs an SE simply because of what it is, a one-off unofficial James Bond movie that stars the actor who played the original James Bond. The how, why, etc. of how this movie came to be.

Here's a link if you want to listen to the song that wasn't used.
It's a great song.

Re: Never say never again - is a special edition of this movie in the works?

As a longtime Bond fan, I understand the legal nightmare of this title. Still, it seems to me that if MGM went to the trouble of acquiring it, then somewhere there must be a bean counter who realizes that, having already sunk a ton of money into court fees and legal expenses for years over this film, on top of the cost of the acquisition itself, that they really need to make money off it to justify the whole thing. A special edition could help accomplish that. Besides, it's regularly re-run on TV with the Eon produced Bond movies, so unlike 1983, it's not like audiences consider it a competitor these days.

I believe the back cover pictured is the original release. It had a missing scene, due to studio error. It was re-released shortly after and the MGM lion logo was on the back, as well as teh spine.

I've kind of always had a soft spot for this film, regardless of it being a remake of Thunderball and having a very silly video game sequence.

Can anyone verify this for sure? What scene was removed?

Also avoid any R2 releases. Because of some law about treatment of animals the horse fall when Bond jumps the horse off the castle wall into the water is edited.

It was a scene at the casino, it was removed by mistake. They sent out replacement discs when that happened. (I got a Goldeneye sweatshirt out of the deal - MGM went out of their way to make good on their mistake.)

Now what I really want is this movie released on BLU RAY!!

Re: Never say never again - is a special edition of this movie in the works?

Ask and ye shall recieve...

Fox and MGM are bringing a Collector's Edition DVD for Never Say Never Again this March 24th, 2009. Yep, the same day as the next wave of other Bond titles.

Cover art is almost similar to the catalog Bond titles but is missing the "gun barrel:"

Extras include:
Commentary with Director Irvin Kershner and James Bond Historian Steven Jay Rubin
The Big Gamble
Sean is Back
The Girls of Never Say Never Again
Theatrical Trailer
Photo Gallery

A Blu-ray Disc is also coming the same day.

^Cool. I'll be getting that to complete my James Bond Collection. I have two copies of ever Bond film. The 1-Disk SE's and the 2-Disk Ultimate Editions. But, I've never owned this one. Now I have a reason to pick it up.

This is my favorite Sean Connery Bond film - when I saw it, I never saw him as "old" in it, until I was older myself...I'll wait for a special edition of it though...

Sweet!! Glad to see this getting a well deserved SE.

I also have 2 copies of every Bond movie. I have the original 1-disc box sets and the new 2-disc sets as well.

I have the 2003 MGM release of this. I guess I can finally dump it if it's worth anything.

Do you know if the special edition is getting a DD 5.1/DTS audio or video restoration as well?

Great news - and I like the original theme song. It has that early 80's Cinemax After dark sound to it.

I guess I'll just get the regular DVD just to complete my Ultimate box. No point just having the one in BR.

The original dvd looked good. So I doubt it.
I wished they would have used the overseas poster art, because that really looked cool and very Bond like.
