The Beast --Series Debut -- "Pilot" -- Starring Patrick Swayze -- 1/15/09

Photobucket

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

FBI veteran Charles Barker (Patrick Swayze) takes his new partner on their first case---an undercover job to break up a weapons-smuggling ring---in the opener of a series starring Swayze as an unconventional vet paired with a rookie (Travis Fimmel).

I am really looking forward to watching this tonight. Not because of the Patrick Swayze curiosity factor, but it looks like a dark and gritty FBI thriller which is a genre that I really like.

With Swayze's illness, I'm assuming this is essentially a one and done 13 episode mini-series. Hopefully the writers wrote these as 1 complete story arc.

Well Johnny Utah could always take over. It seems like the show had gotten pretty good reviews. Sucks about his cancer.

Not bad, even though I felt like I was watching "The Recruit' again during parts of it.

Anyone from Chicago notice how he boarded the red line subway at night and came out at the Damen blue line stop during daylight?

...I wish I could do that.

I definitely did. It's part of the reason why I'm watching. I also noticed that the car he got on was relatively clean. I'm a sucker for any show or movie set in Chicago. I like looking to see how faithful they stay to the city.

I was bored with the show but liked how they used locations I don't normally see in Chicago-based films/shows.

...also liked how they traded an RPG in the open at the freakin' merchandise mart.

Re: The Beast --Series Debut -- "Pilot" -- Starring Patrick Swayze -- 1/15/09

I just found an article that said the Executive Producer of this show hopes Swayze will be healthy enough to film a 2nd season. Realistically I don't think that's going to happen.

Re: The Beast --Series Debut -- "Pilot" -- Starring Patrick Swayze -- 1/15/09

Just finished the Pilot and I thought it was damn good. The production quality was very feature film like and Swayze was in top form.

Haven't watched The Wire yet, but wasn't Larry Gilyard a cast member on that show? I liked the scenes with him and the rookie. His lines about 9/11 and the Russian roulette part with his foot were LOL funny.

I also thought the reveal at the end about the Barker investigation was very cool. Did not see all those characters being undercover coming.

Loved that it was practically commercial. I'm in for the remaining 12 episodes.

That whole bit on the train was terrible. Apart from the bit when he boards the train it's dark and when they start talking it's daylight. His acting was so OTT, the way he was holding the gun. Everything.

Also the director seemed he was trying every trick in the book.

Re: The Beast --Series Debut -- "Pilot" -- Starring Patrick Swayze -- 1/15/09

watched it finally last night, wow...this was terrible; we didn't see any redeeming qualities - a sloppy script with no character development, awful acting from Swayze's young recruit, subplot love interest scenes laughably bad, action was mediocre...what was good about this pilot? I found it cliche and completely derivative.

one less show to watch via DVR..no problem there with 24, Lost, Damages, Fringe etc. all on

In case anyone missed this, it's available for free on Itunes....also in HD.

Totally disagree with Dan1boy's opinion.

Re: The Beast --Series Debut -- "Pilot" -- Starring Patrick Swayze -- 1/15/09

well, if it's any consolation, read EW's review of the pilot...it pretty much mirrors/echoes my thoughts...

but hey, different strokes for different folks..I get it.

sorta
