Analog HD recordings circa 1990 - how good was it compared to HD now?

I was recently thinking about Aerosmith on MTV Unplugged which aired back in 1990. I remember MTV touting the fact that it was recorded in high definition. Now of course, this would have been an older analog type of HD, but I was wondering if anyone knows what the specs and details of that format was (ie. how many lines of resolution) in comparison to current HD standards? I was reading that Aerosmith's Brad Whitford wants to see this get some kind of video release. If this did end up getting a Blu-ray release (which would be awesome, because it was a great peformance), I wonder how the quality would compare to currently recorded hi def concerts. What else aired during that period that was taped in that type of HD?

I think High-Def meant something completely different back then. High-Definition has never been "defined". At least until now, to some degree.

That's true that there was probably no real standard for HD at the time, but for Aerosmith Unplugged, would they have used a video camera that had higher resolution than was normally used for programs like this back then? And speaking of which, what was normally used back then, something like ED Beta (500 lines) or something with less resolution?

Well there was that wacky Japanese HD system delivered in Laserdisc form called "MUSE Hi-Vision" which I believe had 1125 lines of resolution

EDIT: here's some info http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/la...igh_def_ld.htm

It looks like MUSE actually became a US SMPTE standard in the early 90s, so that's a likely contender for something videotaped at the time in "HD":

That's interesting, I didn't know that. I was aware of MUSE, and always wanted to get a MUSE LD player and some discs, but it's more of a curiosity thing, so I wouldn't really want to spend the time and money probably necessary to collect those items. But I thought MUSE was just for LDs, I didn't know that it was developed as a Hi-vision (the term that the Japanese use for high definition) television stanadard in Japan.
