I think the show had a wide range of opinions from believers to skeptics and in between. Personally I'm in the "nerds in cloaks" camp with Rigsby.

Re: The Mentalist -- "Red Rum" -- 1/13/09
Sooooooooo....
I heard some chatter that Red John could be Lisbons boss around the place, after the words 'He is man...' was on the wall in the last ep. Of course his name is Minelli not MANelli, but if they wanted him to then of course they could say it was lingual.
But, we have conclusive proof in this episode that in fact Red John is neither her boss, nor anyone who does work on the team (which it never would have been, nor anyone with the same security clearance as them in CBI.
The Real Red John will be surfacing as a character in the next few episodes, either as someone talked about, or introduced briefly, and they will have connections to Lisbon I predict.
In this ep she had trouble logging in, and was not mentioned again. Films or TV never mention anything unless it has relevance to the plot, especially this show, and he only plot outside the present show is the Red John plot.
And why would someone not be able to log in? Because they already are somewhere else. Everyone in CBI has clearance so they wouldn't need to access the system from hers.
So, as we're looking at someone who could get access somehow to her password, or is from her past, possibly an ex boyfriend or even present one that she has just met. Anyway, you catch my drift.
If the show is true to formula, the character will be introduced very breifly either next week or the week after, just so we know of their presence, and in whichever capacity they are introduced, it will be as a caring and loving person.
Am I right or am I right?

I've just started to catch up on this, and my assumption is the Red John is going to be Lisbon's boss as well.

Just a small note to report. CBS ordered an extra episode of this show.
We are now getting 23 episodes this season.

Last week's show when they continued with the Red John storyline was awesome
The stand alone episodes are variable in quality
This one was decent but nothing special
