"We've Got Tonite" - battle it out between Seger & Rogers
I was listening to We've Got Tonite on my iPod, and I hadn't heard that particular version before.
...let me back up a bit.
For years, I've heard We've Got Tonite, but I never knew which version I was hearing: Bob Seger or Kenny Rogers.
Anyway, I downloaded both to my iPod, and like a few weeks later, the song came on. Alas, I have the Shuffle, and cannot see what's playing. But it was the version I never heard, and it sounded great! I would have sworn on a stack of bibles it was Bob Seger, as it was his song originally, and I always go with the adiom that the First version is the Better version.
But I was wrong! It was Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton (I looked on my iPod - computer - and caught the "minutes," then looked online to confirm it was really them. It was.
So, for years, I've been hearing the Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band's version, and while it is good, it is a little overly romantic and "soft."
Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton belt it out, and it is much harder and has more heart.
Which is your favorite version? The original (Seger) or the cover (Rogers/Easton)?

First version I ever heard as a kid was on the Kenny Rogers Duets album. It wasn't until 15 years later when I moved to Detroit that I started listening to Bob Seeger. I gotta give the edge to the original - the duet hasn't worn as well for me after all these years.

At any rate, I still really associate the song with The Wonder Years--whatever episode it was from.

Kenny should stick to selling chicken, and Sheena should just be choking mine.
Bob all the way, without hesitation. Anyone else is just...wrong.

If /when i ever listen to that, I alternate between the 2 versions. They both have their merits. I love Seger's gritty voice, but I also like Sheena's, too, and Kenny Rogers is the man and sounds similar to Seger. Can't go wrong with either.
BTW - I voted Seger just because it's the original (even though my first recollection hearing the song is Rogers/Easton as a kid).

I gotta be honest, I didn't even know that Kenny Rogers covered this song! Never heard it in my life (and didn't watch 'The Wonder Years'). So I voted for Seger, of course.

Never heard the Bob Seger version and I wasn't much of a Wonder Years fan. Love both Sheena and Kenny though and I love their version.

I'll take that back. Pulled it up on Youtube. I've heard it and while I like Seger's version, I prefer the duet with Rogers and Easton. Seems even more suited as a duet and I like their voices together.
