Nice list. I agree with #1. I still get a thrill seeing that shot. The "Body Snatchers" shot has always given me the creeps.
I guess my only "gripe" would be the missing Japanese monster movie shots. But I guess some of those might register in the Top 100 list.

I'm really surprised that Terminator 2 was not mentioned on the list. I always thought the shot of the T-1000 leaving the flaming wreck as he transforms to his police outfit was state of the art for it's time.

The shot of the stomach chomping from The Thing deserved to be on this list.
I can understand why some of the shots mentioned weren't included. I imagine the shots from Terminator 2 were ignored because of the transition element in question -- it looks great when it's metallic silver, and of course it looks like Robert Patrick when it's Robert Patrick,, but the part where it transitions from one to the other is generally spotty. Since the tech was rudimentary, it never really fades very well from one to the other, it just sort of wipes.

Yeah now that I think about movies that are missing, I'm less impressed with this list. T2, Alien, Matrix, LOTR, Titanic.
Diary of the Dead and Cloverfield weren't too impressive to me.

Yeah, but I think in this case there are some obvious ones missing, even if they did try and clarify the omission of The Matrix. I mean, does anyone really think Terminator 3 was more impressive effects wise then Terminator 2?

Spielberg's War of the Worlds is on the list but not Pal's? Nor Pal's Time Machine?
And the thing from Frenzy, which is just a match-cut from the stage to location? That shouldn't even counts as a special effect.

But it's just about specific moments, not overall effects. And, of course, when you are looking at moments, that means you are grabbing from such a huge pool that you will miss some that other people love. The list didn't seem that bad to me, but he could have put 50 different ones on there and I probably would have still thought it was fine

Good list but you should have added "videos included" in your thread title.
