Your favorite DVD's of 2008

What's your pick? Here's mine:

Vampyr (Cirterion)
Ironman (Paramount)
Hellboy II (Universal)
The Collector's Choice: The Films of Budd Boetticher (Sony)
Night Gallery Season 2 (Universal)
Touch of Evil (Universal)
Walker (Criterion)
Zodiac (DC) (Paramount)
Naked Prey (Criterion)
Dr Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (Disney)
Icons of Horror Collection: Hammer Films (Sony)
and many I've forgotten right now.

Loved The Dark Knight but was really disappointed with the DVD.

Amen.

We didn't buy a lot of 2008 releases this year, but I was happy with Tropic Thunder Director's Cut and Psych: The Complete Second Season. We rented Forgetting Sarah Marshall and while we didn't finish watching all the extras, I enjoyed what we did see.

I thought the Iron Man DVD was very good. Somewhere in between barebones and exhaustive, which is just the way I like my features.

i would have to say iron man its a cool looking steel book and i also like the dvd packageing of the hulk 3 disc set i dont know why i know its a regular dvd packaging but for some reason i like it. dont get me wrong the dark knight steelbook is great but im very disapointed in the special features i feel us dvd collecters got bum rush by warner brothers. so iron is my faviort dvd of 2008.

Funnily enough, I felt there wasn't a release I saw this year that I thought was great, especially after the Blade Runner SE released in 07, but the 2 disc Dirty Harry came very close but the Australian release didn't have the trailer gallery and as a result it missed out.

Hopefully, this year will create some good releases and hopefully, a long overdue special edition for The Road Warrior, heres hoping.

I'm sure the list will expand as there are many more releases I've bought but haven't had a chance to watch yet- the Budd Boetticher set, Fanny, The Bond Bds, The Planet Of The Apes Bd set, Dr Syn, amongst others.
Lots of great catalog titles made it out last year, got remastered, and/or were released on Bd. Hopefully a bad economy won't impinge on 2009s slate severely.

So many visits to DVDTalk, and yet I have only 5 releases from this year. At least coming up with a top five isn't too taxing.

Iron Man by far. The Dark Knight was my favorite film of the year but between its sub-par PQ and lack of extras I have to hand it to Tony Stark. Sorry Bruce.
