Very cool and original looking! Kinda reminds me of those old Tool music videos.
Here's the original 10 minute "9" short film by Shane Acker if anyone is curious:

OK so we've go this coming soon. The Rob Marshall directed "Nine" starring Daniel Day-Lewis coming in 2009. PLus they had that short-lived 2006 tv series "The Nine" and The Ryan Reynolds movie "The Nines".
Thats a lot of 9's....

Trailer for Tim Burton's animated "9"
9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A group of sapient rag dolls, living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Elijah Wood), who displays leadership qualities that may help them to survive.
The conflicted, but resilient group includes 1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Martin Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Crispin Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave warrior.
There are at least several malevolent creatures up against this group; namely, the cat-skulled creature from the short film, a split-headed flying being that resembles both a bat and a manta ray in wing shape, and an insectoid creature with jointed legs and a pod-like body.

And to think, at the time you didn't know about the Beatles remastered CDs and Rock Band game coming on 9-9-09.

Just found the trailer today while looking at Dave's Trailer Page. I think it looks fantastic... interesting premise, top notch visuals and animation (anyone know if it was hand done, or motion capture?) and a good voice cast. Looking forward to seeing it. I'll even be near a bigger city (Portland) when it opens, so hopefully I can catch a show.

Overlooked? Definitely. This thing is going to tank. It's not a cute-happy-colorful CG flick. It looks like it's definitely just geared towards boys. The subject matter will probably more for the 13+ crowd, those that start turning their back on animation(too cool for animation type thing). Not to mention not many adults will go see an animated flick without kids. This has bomb written all over it, IMO.

Every time I see this, I keep seeing it bombing.. it looks dark enough from the trailer alone that it could warrant a PG-13. I think it looks interesting, though.

I believe it is a PG-13, according to the trailer I saw. I can't see it doing that well, but I think it had the potential to be a really good movie.

I've seen the trailer 3 times and still have no idea what the movie is about. Why do the characters look like little burlap sacks with arms and legs?
BTW, slapping "From Producer Tim Burton!" on a cg-animated movie is getting old.
