"Classic" Holiday Songs.
There's another thread but this in particular is not about deals or holiday music in general, but about the original classics.
I.e. Little Drummer Boy, O, Holy Night, Silent Night, etc.
Which is your favorite rendition?
I really like Mary Chapin Carpenter's Little Drummer Boy and the American Idol Ensemble's of Oh Come All Ye Faithful.
Also love anything Clay Aiken does, but specifically O, Holy Night and Hark The Herald Angels Sing/Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

I love Michael Ball's rendition of 'O, Holy Night'
John Denver & The Muppets:
- Twelve Days of Christmas
in regards to 'Silent Night' the song most of the time is sung way too slow.... ugh... *snore*

I hardly think anything you mentioned is considered a classic.
For ex, Little Drummer Boy. Mary Chapin Carpenter is "the original classic"?
Please lookup Harry Simeone Chorale for the "classic." Please.

Johnny Mathis owns "Sleigh Ride." In fact, his whole Merry Christmas album co-owns the whole holiday (w/ Vince Guaraldi). Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra rent out rooms.
I've heard several versions of "Fairytale of New York" (a new classic) and none can touch the original by the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
I started a kinda/sorta/maybe-not-really similar thread 4 years ago: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/music-talk/...mas-songs.html
No matter who sings this, I always think of John Denver & the Muppets and substitute Miss Piggy's "five golden rings" in my head during that part, as well as the "ba dum dum dums."
Well, I guess I also think of Bob & Doug McKenzie when it comes to the first day ("and a beer...in a tree").

let me give a plug out to the John Rutter Christmas album, such a beautiful recording (in my book an essential album):

Unless your question is, "Here are some classic songs with classic renditions. Name some renditions of these songs which are not good."

KERMIT: "You're an old slut on junk. Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed."
MISS PIGGY: "You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy f*****."
...can't be any worse than hearing "Sunny Side of the Street" in a fucking Cadillac commercial while an asshole yuppie couple is dancing around their kitchen.

I've always enjoyed the "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" album by John Williams & The Boston Pops. I have a hard time letting the holiday season pass without playing Elvis's Christmas songs (my favorite compilation of which being, "If Every Day Was Like Christmas"). And, not that it's music at all, but every year I pick a night, kill the lights and play Patrick Stewart's performance of "A Christmas Carol." Which, incidentally, is much easier now that I have it on CD and don't have to flip cassettes anymore.

"The Holly and the Ivy" by Mr. Ray and Friends
Sufjan Stevens has a lot of wonderful covers of classics on his Songs for Christmas boxset, including "O Come O Come Emmanuel," "I Saw Three Ships," "We Three Kings," and "Joy to the World."
Speaking of "We Three Kings," I've always really enjoyed the version performed in the Claymation Christmas Special. I also liked their version of "Here We Come A-Wassailing".

My all-time favorite classic is Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
Not a real big fan of The Eurythmics, except for a few songs, but I like their version of Winter Wonderland.
