Navarre shuts down BCI Eclipse
Another one bite the dust. Loved their animation titles (He-Man, Dungeons and Dragons), Drive-In Classics, Naschy. Guess the Shaw Bros films are cancelled. I wonder if this will affect Code Red? This sucks.

As part of this decision, Navarre will be reducing its workforce and writing down assets. Going forward, BCI’s exclusively distributed disc business will be folded into the corporation’s distribution unit. Its BCI brand is not expected to be stamped on future releases

They way I read it is that they are just getting rid of the BCI name, the releases will go on under another name kinda like Artisan did when Lionsgate bought them out

That's what I was trying to say above. The fact that they mentioned "future releases" in the bit I quoted bodes well.

I just bought the first BCI set in my massive collection of DVDs just last week... the "Celebrity Family Feud" collection. Was hoping to see more game show collections... need to get the "Match Game" and "Price is Right" collections soon!

I really hope the consolidating theory is the one that flies on Navarre/BCI's next chapter. I've loved the treatment they've done for the old Sonny Chiba films ..and the cost! When Adness had control they were going for $10-20 a piece. When Navarre took over I could get 3-4 films for that price range of the same quality.
There's quite a few more that I'd like to see. Street Fighter if anyone is listening!!!!

In regards to the Shaw titles, this is just one more (inevitable, really) reason to grab such titles when they're released in their original territory, and get a region-free player to boot (they're not that hard to find folks). Here we are in 2008 lamenting the potential unavailability of, what, maybe 20 titles, when around 700 have been released in perfectly acceptable versions since 2003+/- in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia, and often for less money. If the films are the thing, and they very well should be, then truly interested souls shouldn't have been waiting around for these U.S. companies to risk losing money on them to release them to you in dribs and drabs, noble though the effort might have been. There's SO much you'll miss that way.
I feel worse for the loss of the "domestic" fare BCI released (grindhouse et. al.), even though I rarely missed grabbing anything to date . The foreign acquisitions are largely still available in other markets, and if you really wanna see what you've been missing, instead of waiting who-knows-how-many more years to see them in Region 1, I'd strongly suggest shopping outside borders. Or at least visiting your nearest big-city Chinatown if you have access to one . . .

I completed my Rarescope collection, just in case, while they are available. I can't imagine there is much of an audience for those films, but I love em. All of the Rarescope titles are listed as "BCI Eclipse" in the studio tag at the Navarre site.

Re: Navarre shuts down BCI Eclipse
Anyone know if BCI Eclipse's 20 films Exploitation Cinema Collection is a new release? Can't seem to find any information on it.
20 films (some of which are on the "Drive-In's" Collections) on 10 discs, with artwork matching their current line of Double-Feature discs. Saw it at Best Buy tonight and it came packaged in two Multi-Disc cases, housed in a slipcase.
