HDMI splitter help
Hey, I need a HDMI splitter as I have 3 sources but only 2 inputs on my Yamaha receiver. Do they make splitters that automatically recognize a source being "on" and that is the one that goes through. With my setup it wouldn’t be practical to have to manually switch. I was hoping there would be one where if one of the devices is powered off, then the one powered on will be the one that passes through. Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response.

All of the auto/powered switches listed on that page will switch based on the active source. I have an old 2x1 (no longer for sale, it seems) and it works like a champ.

Here's the one I have (It's more expensive than the others on this page, but I think it's worth it---far fewer handshake issues than my old Monoprice one.)

Switcher. You guys all talked about the right things. You just don't want to end up with the wrong one. Both exist.
And I've had 2 different Monoprice switchers, both automatically switch. Auto is good for things like Bluray players, not so useful for DVRs, since those are always on. But if you go to Monprice, make sure to get one that claims HDMI 1.3 compatibility. Good place to get cables, too.

The Oppo one I listed above works on priority: my TiVo is in the 3rd slot with my PS3 and Xbox in the first two. If the PS3 and Xbox are off, it will default to the 3rd slot. When they're on, they have a higher priority and will switch to them.

Re: HDMI splitter help
I bought a powered 4X1 HDMI Switch from Monoprice recently.
Can you calibrate all of the inputs differently, or is that not an option with HDMI switches?

Re: HDMI splitter help
Hey Guys,
I ran into the same dilemma when I built my theater in the basement. My HD projector only had 1 HDMI input so I had to buy a switcher. I actually ended up buying a 4X2 HDMI Switcher from Gefen. The reason being is that I have a PS3, HD DVD Player, and a DirecTV HD DVR. One of the two outputs to my projector, the other output to an LCD I have in my garage. The only issue is that whatever is on in the basement is the same thing that is on the LCD in the garage. But so far it has worked out great and it responds great to my Harmony 890 universal remote.
