30 Rock -- "Christmas Special" -- 12/11/08

Christmas Special
Spoiler:
Only days before Christmas, Liz's parents ditch her to celebrate the holidays at a couples-only retreat, leaving her all alone for the holiday. To fill the void, she participates in a charity program, "Letters to Santa," to help underprivileged kids have a nice Christmas. Meanwhile, Jack takes his frustration out on the TGS staff when his plans for a dream holiday vacation away from his overbearing mother, Colleen, are crushed. The TGS crew is forced to give up their plans to produce a last minute Christmas special.

Great stuff with Stritch and Baldwin.

The revelation that Kenneth went to Neverland Ranch...

I... No words. Should have sent a poet.

So they could properly describe the sheer stupidity of this.

(Oh, and if you want to hug a black person, just host "The Price is right.")

And the setup for this is just as good:

Liz: Jack do you know the postmaster general?
Jack: Yes, but we had a falling out after the Jerry Garcia stamp. If I wanted to lick a hippie, I'd return Joan Baez's phone calls.

That is comedy gold right there.

Very funny episode. I'm glad that they got back to being in the writing room and showing the production of "The Girlie Show." Hope they stick with it some more.

Liz: Are you drunk?
Jenna: On the ‘Spirit of Christmas!’ It’s the cheap, high proof brandy I found. I hope it’s not seasonal…

Liz: "Where are you? I hear sunshine."

Liz: "I kind of assumed they'd rap - which is racist on my part."

This show has the best throwaway lines.

No. I watched the same one. Had some OK parts, but the last episode was far, far funnier.

I am in the meh group. Not bad, but had a mainstream feel. Some funny lines, but not overall funny.

Good Christmas episode. Jack waiting 8 minutes to call 911 was great.

I thought last night's episode had a problem premise with some very clever parts. I prefer episodes to start off with a better story and then bring in the clever, but I'll take what I can get.

Yes, I just rewatched "Ludachristmas" and the premise was much much better.

- "Those drawings are a clue that children live here."
- "Or Basquiat."

The central plots are getting stale, but I just keep tuning in for the great throwaway lines.
