Any other games like Bioshock for Xbox 360 or PS3?

OK, first off I am not a big gamer the system is my son's and I bought Bioshock thinking it looked pretty cool and I would play it someday. Well a YEAR later I finnished it. This is probably on the second or third video game I have ever completed.

What I am wondering are there other games that would be similiar to this one for the 360?

I was also a BIG fan of the Thing for the Xbox (last game I played) I don't like "war games" like Call of Duty etc...

I liked how the game and story progressed with Bioshock and hope to find something similiar to play over the Holiday when I will have several days off.

Thanks in advance.

You should really check out Dead Space. I'd rank it slightly below Bioshock, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hmm... there isn't anything really like it at least not until Bioshock 2 comes out. By that same token, maybe Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena next year. Do you still have your original XBOX? You could always nab Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for it. Unfortunately it isn't backwards compatible with the 360.

As for 360 games, maybe Gears of War 2?

I agree, Dead Space is probably the closet thing. Or if you like action RPG (roll playing games) you could try Fallout 3.

As others are suggesting, if you don't mind survival horror, then Dead Space is the way to go. Lots of fair comparisons to Bioshock with that one, in addition to standing out on it's own in pure awesomeness.

(And my dirty secret is that I may have even liked Dead Space better. Shhh...don't tell anyone. )

Another vote for Dead Space. In fact, Bioshock and Dead Space are both quasi-sequels to a great decade-old PC game called System Shock 2, so they are very similar in a lot of ways.

You may also enjoy Condemned and its sequel Condemned 2.

Skip Condemned 2, it blew, but the original Condemned is sweet. Can probably find it for $10 I'd guess too.

Dead Space was a GREAT game. If you like Bioshock, you'll enjoy it.

I can't get enough Dead Space. I've gone through it 4 times for achievements and just the sheer fun of it, and I'm going through it again on impossible mode now.

GREAT GAME, maybe even better than Bioshock (as someone else said).

That guy's an idiot though!

I'm looking forward to going through a few more times. Way too busy the last few months. Hopefully Jan/Feb will slow things way down and I can do a few more runs. May actually be a good space of time so that I can actually re-experience a bunch of stuff for the first time again.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but there is this game you may not have heard of called Dead Space. It is very similar to Bioshock.

I want to recommend this game set in space, I just can't remember the name.

Oh and it's not better than Bioshock, not even close.

Dead Space, but it is not as good as Bioshock. I would have given Bioshock a 9.5 out of 10, and Dead Space an 8.5 out of 10. Fallout 3 was also brought up, but you have to put more into it to get the same quality as Bioshock. Bioshock, and even Dead Space, slam you within the first hour, or 5 minutes if Bioshock, but Fallout 3 does not move into GREAT until at least 10 hours in. I actually think Fallout 3 is the best game of the bunch, but expect at least 30-50 hours to finish it.

First off, LOVE Dead Space and Bioshock.

I rented Fallout 3 the day it came out. I actually hated the game so much I only played it the first day on a five day rental. I kept checking the DVDTalk thread about Fallout 3 expecting to see the same hatred that I had, but it was the opposite...nothing but priase. Finally, after reading nothing but good about the game, last week I rented Fallout again and once I got past Megatron (sp?) the game really started rolling. Now I find myself immersed in the game and can't get enough. It is nothing like Bioshock or Dead Space, but it is a spectacle, but give it time to get rolling.

Though Fallout 3 isn't really "like" Bioshock except that they're both FPS/RPGs (to an extent), Fallout 3 does "feel like" Bioshock to me. I think it's mainly the relatively unique environment, and the amount of attention paid to the details that flesh out the worlds. Bioshock and Fallout 3 are both very good at creating an immersive environment.
that said, like DVDSteve says, F3 takes a little longer to get you into the story than Bioshock. Still, they're both great and reminiscent of each other.
I haven't played Dead Space either.

The Orange Box (Half-Life 2) is a bit BioShock-ish. It kind of throws you in the middle of the story but you can freshen up on all that pretty quickly. BioShock is a quasi-sequel to System Shock 2, Dead Space just kind of borrows some ideas (and simultaneously reminds me of Crusader: No Remorse, which I would love to have modernized)

That said, yeah, Dead Space is probably the closest.

I never really thought of BioShock as scary, but as I've gotten out into the real world a bit and talked to more casual gamers, I'm actually amazed at the number of people creeped out by it.

Dead Space began development as System Shock 3, though EA made it an independent IP relatively early in development. Bioshock was designed by Ken Levine, who also designed System Shock 2.

You would think Dead Space was a game of the year contender by the looks of this thread.
