DVD Talk Review of 'Good Times: The Complete Series'
Yes, I watched all of these, too (just like Sanford and Son: The Complete Series)...17 discs...133 episodes (over 55 hours!)
Sir, you are a glutton for punishment!

Tem-por-ary laaaayoffs...
GOOD TIMES!
Eaaaasy credit rip-offs...
GOOD TIMES!
It seemed as though John Amos was poised for a major breakout after his portrayal of the adult Kunta Kinte in Roots, but then...nothing. I always thought it was an intentional slap in the face to the actor & the character when they explained James' departure by having him run off with another woman.
And who would have imagined, 30+ years ago, that J.J. Walker's ultimate claim to fame would be as a former employer of David Letterman?

Was it? I think his legacy will be that fine performance of his in THE CONCORDE - AIRPORT '79.

Any movie that puts Alain Delon and Avery Schreiber in the same shot gets my vote!
...and it's even better in German:

When you start out with something that big, putting in disc after disc with eight or ten episodes a piece on each one, you begin to feel like it's taking over your life, because you have to spend so much time with it. But it's really the only way for me to watch a series now. You really get a sense of the series' ebb and flow, and its overall structure, when you can view it as one big block. I know some don't watch every episode, but I can't write about something like that if I don't.

And James didn't die at the Alaskan pipeline, either. That was an episode where he contemplated working there alone for a year, to get up money for the family (he didn't go in the end). James' death was announced in a telegram, actually, at the beginning of the fourth episode. His manner of death? Car accident.

Well, I knew someone had run of off with someone. My apologies to Mr. Lear, no slap in the face intended apparently.
