Quarantine (2/17/09)
Terror spreads faster than the virus that holds a town hostage in this timely chiller. Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. Unbeknownst to them, a woman living in the building has contracted a rare strain of rabies. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. No details. No witnesses. No evidence. Until now. Special Features include deleted scenes, audio commentary, behind-the-scenes featurettes and much, much more!

I saw this in the theater and was surprised how much I liked it. I guess i'm just a sucker for these types of movies. I'll pick this up on release date.

[Rec] is the original.
I saw the commercials for this on TV & thought "eh." On a whim I caught it in the theater and it was indeed an unexpected treat. Towards the end it did feel a little forced -- almost like a haunted house where you have to go down the designated path -- but it does speak volumes by the fact that I was emotionally invested enough to feel like I should have a choice on which way to go!
I cannot wait for the DVD and am eagerly wanting to see the original (though from what I have heard, "Quarantine" has a better explanation).

I really liked this one. Need to check out [REC]. Hopefully it follows on the heals of this release so I can just netflix it. (Or is [REC] in netflix?)

I just checked amazon...and I guess there's no Region 1 of [REC]? I'd like to see that, mostly because I'm also a Spanish speaker and rarely see good genre flicks ported over here. It's not a big deal that I need them but when available it's cool. Trust me, all the genre stuff that I remember growing up with as horrid material...good god, I remember seeing a take on a Mexican Terminator.....it even a punk gang cut a man's nose with with gardening scissors. Any news if we will get it?

Spoiler:
Spoiler:
It's debatable whether it is tipped too early in the movie ... looking back it is very easy to see the "hints" ... I suppose it is easier to say this since the final act loses a lot of the emotional momentum and tries to rely on simple jumps & bumps.

While not officially a US release (it's actually from Singapore) DiabolikDVD has a US friendly version for $15. It's NTSC and region-free.

[Rec] has been on my to buy list for a few months now. I always wind up spending the money on Blus or Godzilla (Toho) DVDs instead lol. I'd really like to see it before Quarantine, which I'll probably get as well, because I've heard [Rec] is much, MUCH better/scarier.
