Ahh, my favorite actress. And this is a no brainer for me. "Elizabeth" of course. Followed by "Heaven", "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", "Notes on a Scandal", "The Aviator" and "Charlotte Gray".

Mine as well, along with Julianne Moore. If I can just stop staring at that pic long enough to vote for I'm Not There - those cheekbones are just exquisite!

VERY tough call for me between Notes on A Scandal and I'm Not There, but I went with Scandal because it was arguably a more rounded character she was playing and not a kind of mythic archetype. But she's amazing, I'll watch her in just about anything.

There are some shots of her in the latest "Benjamin Button" trailer where she is so beautiful, they literally made my jaw drop. Cate is the very best actress these days. The new Meryl Streep IMO.

The only one I've seen is The Talented Mr. Ripley, so that made my choice pretty easy.

Yup, the only one! If it's any consolation, I thought she was great in it.

Like all great actors are able to do, she made the most out of a minor, somewhat thankless role.

My favorite actress as well. I went with Elizabeth, but there are many performances that could have won. That having been said, I was disappointed with her in the Indiana Jones movie.

Definitely Elizabeth, although I'm Not Thee is a close second.

Definitely I'm Not There for me. I can't think of any other actresses who could've pulled that one off.

Elizabeth. I love that movie (and her amazing performance) in it so much, I still have SERIOUS issues with Gwynneth Paltrow stealing the Oscar from her in 1998.

The sequel was shit, but Cate was still damn good in it.

And whoever mentioned her performance in Heaven is spot on. Phenomenal.

I'm the one who mentioned "Heaven". Also a terrific film (and director!).

Re: "The Golden Age". I just think it was too Hollywood. If that makes sense. They should have kept is low key and low budget like the first film. "Elizabeth" was such a great great movie, it's damn hard to come close to matching it's greatness IMO. I've raved about it for years and so long, I had people actually see "The Golden Age" first, then rented "Elizabeth". And get this, they loved the sequel more! So I'm guessing had we seen it first too, maybe it wouldn't have seemed subpar (?) I actually loved "TGA", and would give it a 9/10 rating. But "Elizabeth" gets the perfect score of 10/10 in my book.

She's always phenomenal and I'd watch her in anything, but Elizabeth is one of the greatest screen performances of all time.

While her Hepburn imitation in Aviator was spot-on, it was a bit too perfect for me. I felt like I was watching a caricature, an impersonation of someone famous rather than an actual human being.

Really? They put her in a wig and let her do a Bob Dylan impersonation (surely one of the top five easiest impersonations ever) for like ten minutes of screen time and sent off screeners to the Academy members. Yeah, she was good, but I can't believe people are comparing it to films in which she actually leads.

Elizabeth by a mile.

I think there was a bit more to it than that.

I'm not trying to be snarky here, but has anyone who voted for LOTR ever seen *any* of her other performances listed here? She was fine (albeit a little stiff at times) as Galadriel, but compared to her work in Elizabeth, The Aviator, Heaven, Notes On A Scandal, and a bunch of other movies not listed here, it's like comparing a Big Mac to a *perfectly* grilled 18 oz Ribeye.

FUCK now I'm hungry.

While everyone may not exactly enjoy a Big Mac, everyone enjoys McDonalds as a whole

In the role she should have won Best Actress for, "Elizabeth".
