Whoever mentioned that they couldn't see Punisher: War Zone making more than $3 million this weekend were absolutely right.

Pretty low weekend all around. Hopefully Punisher makes more on DVD/International. Sure is a lot of love/hate around here for Punisher.

If by poor marketing you mean, "Making it look absolutely unwatchable no matter what your state of inebriation," then yes, it was poor marketing. I'm sure the piss poor reviews didn't help, either.

Sorry I couldn't resist It's insane, I'm *still* pumped to see PUNISHER for some reason. It just looks like goofy fun, no matter how much my elitist, hoity-toity, ultra-snooty pompoofery makes me want to think otherwise... wait, what?

Don't get me wrong, I want to see Punisher just based off the fact that it's a hard-R gritty action movie; but releasing it close to Christmas is just an awful idea.
January, like this year's Rambo? Sure. Right before the holidays? Eh...

Well go see it the guys! Opening weekend, it needs it! Trust me, its worth it. Seems like once people see it, they like it. Its just getting them there.

Well the reviews didn't hurt Max Payne to make a decent amount...I think it was the lack of star power, and well hardly any marketing was what did Punisher in. Who knows, maybe even the R rated kept the teens out of the theater too.

I doubt they matter in the least for films of this nature.
I'm not defending the film's quality (or lack thereof), Supr, simply illustrating that this could have made much more money had it been sold properly.

To be fair, however, Punisher wasn't going to beat any of the films that came in above it -- those are all juggernauts comparatively.
On a related note, I just came back from seeing Punisher, and it was AWESOME. That's really about the maximum depth at which I can critically analyze it.

I am still surprised it was that Punisher did that badly . . . but then I look at myself. I have been aware of the character for over 20 years at least, probably 25, and I have no desire to see the film. This is something where the previous films probably hurt the current one . . . although I have never seen the previous films. Word of mouth only . . .
Punisher would have been interesting maybe to briefly use in a quick aside for the upcoming Avengers movie.

I think Cadillac Records will have legs. It only cost twelve million and looks decent. LionsGate better have Tyler Perry direct the next Saw movie to make back the money it lost on Punisher. I think that 4 million recoups some of the marketing budget on that turkey.
