The IT Crowd (Emmy* winner of Best Comedy) — Series 3 Discussion

*International Emmy, that is.

Season 1 is currently airing on IFC on Tuesday nights at 10PM. Season 3 is currently airing on Channel 4 in the UK.

This isn't the funniest show on television but it's damn close. For a bit, I believe this was going to turn into the American 'The Office' spinoff.

Is anyone else watching this?

A friend of mine got me into watching this show and I've seen every episode. It's sorta up and down for me, but there's always something to laugh at.

to the resolution of the main storyline in last week's S3 episode.

One overall series complaint:
Spoiler:
I find it odd that neither of the "cliffhangers" have even been mentioned in the next season's opener?

I think the Cliffhangers disappearing is an intentional gag.

I love this series, it's one of the best three camera/live audience sitcoms around. I can't wait for Series 3 to get released on DVD so I can actually watch it.

Same writer as Father Ted. Give it 2-3 episodes to sink in, it gets into its stride pretty quickly but not instantaneously.

Sadly, Richmond won't appear in Series 3 due to scheduling conflicts.

Spain: I think IFC.com has it streaming, but obviously not the later seasons.

The third season has a bit of a different feel to it, but it's still pretty great. The ending of the last episode had me in tears.

That was fantastic! "Moss, there are some banisters right there..." haha I love this show. One of my friends got me hooked in the middle of Season 2 and I love it. Not the funniest, but the humor is solid.

It's a funny series.

Matt Berry's character (the boss) is hilarious. What a character.

There was supposed to be a R1 release of Series 1 in September '07, then that got pushed to January '08 when the US version was supposed to air. When the US version fell through, the DVD release seemed to turn into vaporware. I got R2 releases of Series 1 & 2, and 3 is due out March 16, '09.

There's loads of clips on YouTube, if you feel like giving it a try.
ETA: Well, maybe not. A lot of the YouTube clips are being removed.

Too bad that Richmond won't be showing up. I still miss Denholm.

I love Matt Berry, he did a great weird sketch show called "Snuff Box" with Rich Fulcher from Mighty Boosh.

I like the show. I've only seen the first episode this year, but it was enjoyable. It's been so long since I've seen the other seasons, I can't remember anything about cliffhangers. What were they?

Weren't they going to do a US version of this with Joel McHale? What happened to that?

I know they shot a pilot (it included the original UK actor as Moss), but it didn't go any further than that.

Obviously, Knight Rider was more important.

The one decent President NBC has had in recent years (Reilly) ordered something like a six episode season. When he was canned, the idiot they replaced him with thought Kath and fucking Kim (from his own former company) was the better way to go.

Figures. I complain about the lack of cliffhanger follow-up and the next episode does that very thing.

Haha pretty funny episode too imo. I'd bet this one (303) was actually produced first and just aired third.

One of my favorite shows. Each season has its own feel about it, but all quality stuff. Graham Linehan (writer-director, Father Ted, Big Train, Black Books) is a comedy genius.

Check out Garth Marenghi's Darkplace with both Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade (Moss).

I actually couldn't get into Darkplace although it has, bar-none, the funniest opening credits sequence of any show in the past decade.

I'm liking this season a lot more. They're doing a much better job interweaving all the different storylines.

Another UK comedy series recommendation: The Mighty Boosh. It's got Noel Fielding in it (Richmond). It's not as strong overall as The IT Crowd but it has a lot of great lines.
