Gervais wants to visit "The Office" (US)
From TVGuide.com:
Is a merger in store for The Office? Ricky Gervais, the brilliant mind behind the British original, tells TVGuide.com he'd like to appear in NBC's Americanized version.
Gervais even has an idea for how he could appear: as himself, playing struggling actor Andy Melman on HBO's Extras.
"I'd quite like them to maybe be watching an episode of Extras, and Michael Scott comes along and goes, 'This guy is no good. If they ever do a remake, I think I should do that part."
Of course, Gervais and American Office star Steve Carrell worked together before in an Emmys routine about Carrell picking up Gervais' Emmy for Extras. They also appeared in a Saturday Night Live routine about a Japanese version of The Office, though not together.

I could see him showing up as David Brent, and has the entire office fall in love with him.

Mods: Please add (US) to the end of the thread title so it is clear which of the two series the OP is talking about.
Edit: Thanks!!

Give me a break, he has show up as David Brent for sure. I can see Jim observing how he's fiddling with his tie all the time.
That said, they should make it a 3 part guest spot where there is a rivalry with David/Michael as their personalities clash and instantly hate each other instead of what everybody expects with them liking each other.

It'd be awesome if he came on The Office (US), but not as Andy Melman. I agree with what everyone has said thus far. Having him and Michael instantly hate each other would be comic gold.

David Brent to visit Dunder-Mifflin?! Gervais Says So!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ts-return.html
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Ricky said his Brent will clash egos with his US equivalent in the American version of hit BBC comedy The Office.
The Stateside Office stars Steve Carell as blundering chief Michael Scott and is in its seventh series.
Revealing his plans for the episode, Ricky, 48, said: "I think it would be funny for David Brent to walk into the US Office and hear them go, 'Oh my god, there's two of them!'
"We don't need to know about Brent's back story - the English Office exists in a cocoon and in the DVD.
"Michael Scott could just bump into Brent, who is a bloke from England.
"I don't think we'll take any of the other UK characters over - we'll probably leave it with just me because it's just too complicated."

Sorry, I don't keep up with your Office threads. If it turns out to be true, it won't be a spoiler for long given an ad blitz. Feel free to have a mod merge it if you care and sorry to potentially ruin the narrative for you.
Unnecessary, totally. Luckily the UK series remains intact. If this is what it takes to get me to watch the extremely overdue for pasture US Office, so be it.

I can't find it now, but I also recently read a story about this where Gervais said maybe instead of David Brent, it would be just Jim and Pam watching an episode of Extras, then putting a phone call into his character on Extras to see if he would do an ad campaign for them or something. Definitely sounds like this is still in creative idea mode...

I can't imagine anybody anticipating a television event as much as I anticipate this. Thursday can't come soon enough!

I don't like the US Office but love the UK Office so I'd watch this if it's true.

Could be brilliant. But is it too "inside?" What percentage of The Office's audience actually know about the BBC version, let alone have seen it? They could end up feeling how I did about the youtube wedding thing...mystefied.

I'd watch it if it does happen. But part of me thinks this is too late of a stunt to pull considering how unfunny the show has been.

Yes it is a bit of a stunt and it may end up being tacky
But hey i think it will be cool and if it doesn't work, it's only 1 tv episode wasted, no biggie
