I actually just took my 8-yo to see that on Sunday for her birthday so it's extremely topical for me.

Tonight was just flat out terrible... but on the positive side, it made the earlier episodes from this season seem a whole lot better in comparison.

Thought it was great, but is this "high school musical" thing something they made up just for the show? Or are kids these days really THAT gay?
(and by "gay", I mean "festive", "merry", & "joyful" with the urge to dance)

I think you people are crazy. I've never watched a single second of any of the HSM flicks, and this episode had me cracking up. I laughed out loud a number of times.
-"Peru"
-The absolute horribly accented singing
-"girls are such ****", and then bam, all the boys join in
-That new kid walks in, we've never seen him before, "who the hell is that". I assume it's mocking the typical guy in the movies
-The gang watching HSM for the first time, the horrible song that's playing "you gotta go with the status quo if you wanna be a regular joe, that's a phrase we know, singing about what we know", and Cartman's reaction about if this is what's cool, he no longer has any connections to this world, and decides to kill himself
-The payoff of Cartman's suicide attempt
-Jimmy starts to sing to give Stan advice and Stan just tells him to stop, "alrighty then"
-The singing kid's dad, just the way he acts and walks around all the time, not to mention his name
-The new kid the gang hangs out with and how they made fun of him
-Stan's first attempt at singing
-And yes, the ending of the episode was solid also
I'm more than willing to admit when an episode sucks, but I thought this one was pretty darn funny.

I thought it was an average episode. There are many better, but also many worse.
Even for those of us that have never seen a HSM movie, I'me sure we've all seen Grease.
