Streep may not be the best, but she certainly is in the Top Ten, if not the Top Five of many lists.

(Streep is one of the few in the acting profession that has extensive college training in acting, based on what I've read of her biography, with degrees from both Vassar and Yale.)

Meryl Streep is fantastic.

Such a pleasure to watch her act.

One of my favorite movies is 'Defending Your Life', she's terrific in that.

Of all her roles, the most memorable for me is the simple, almost pointless ringtone sequence in Adaptation.

Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn, with four wins, has more Best Actress Awards than any other actress. Eleven women have won two Best Actress Awards; in chronological order, they are Luise Rainer, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Vivien Leigh, Ingrid Bergman, Elizabeth Taylor, Glenda Jackson, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Jodie Foster, and Hilary Swank.

Meryl Streep should be in the list of Worst Acress of All-time, along with Marcia Gay Harden and Nicole Kidman.

Best actresses are:
Blanchett, Winslet, Dench, umm, actually most British actresses...

Yes, clearly Vivica A. Fox is more talented and with a more varied body of work.

I don't even think Streep is the best living actress...I've always been partial to Jodie Foster.

Vivicia A. Fox is a better actress than Meryl Streep actually. Have you seen her on Season 6 of Curb Your Enthusiasm - she's great.

Streep, Harden and Kidman are certainly the worst famous actresses...I guess I would put Julia Roberts in there as well. Just because she did one good movie (Erin Brokovich), just like one good movie for Streep (Sophie's Choice), it doesn't make her an amazing actress. Other famous bad actresses are Halle Berry (another Oscar winner) and Jessica Alba...

Just because an actor has an Oscar, it doesn't make them automatically great actors. There are plenty of great actors who have never even been nominated for an Oscar that are better actors than Oscar-nominated actors....

Yes. Meryl Streep is the best film actor, male or female, of all time.

I would be willing to bet that a poll of fellow actors would easily reach this conclusion as well. There's a reason why she holds the record for most Academy Award acting nominations of any actor or actress, living or dead (and shows no sign of slowing up, as she is a lock to get in for Doubt this year).

I doubt that those who vote "No" have seen a majority of her performances. Watch Sophie's Choice and then get back to me.

There's a reason why, whenever a great new actress like Cate Blanchett comes along and begins a meteoric rise, they sometimes get dubbed "the new Meryl Streep."

Certainly the greatest living actress. As far as all time, I'd rate Bette Davis above her.

Precisely.
