Guitar Hero: World Tour - The One and Only Thread (Part 3)

Hope you all don't mind if I start a new thread since the last one is at 1000 posts. (apologies to L&O)

Continued discussion from the previous thread

Problems with drums - start here : www.activision.com/support

Glossary

Alt-Strumming - Alternatively strumming up and down, usually reserved for fast repeating notes.

FC - Full Combo. Playing the entire song without an overstrum or missed note, keeping a combo for the full song.

Star Path - The practice of executing star power/overdrive at points which maximizes your score. e.g., An optimal star path of 2-3-2 means star power is activated after 2 star phrases, then 3 star phrases, then 2 star phrases are picked up.

Sightread - Playing a song for the first time, chart being sight unseen.

Quick question:

Have a 360. Have a GH3 Les Paul guitar. Still need to pick up both RB2 and GH:WT. Want a drum kit and a new (second) guitar.

Is it better to pick up the RB2 bundle, and game-only GH:WT, or should I get the GH:WT bundle and game-only RB2?

At this point, I wouldn't recommend investing in Guitar Hero's drums.

...And the second guitar is a matter of preference. If you were ok w/ the RB1 Strat, then the RB2 strat improves on it in most ways. If you prefer the Les Paul, the WT Guitar is more of the same but with a touch slide bar and a connector in the neck to avoid the problems of Les Paul.

Why do you say that? I think they are pretty good and in fact I'd say they are better than the RB1 set. I don't have the RB2 to compare. The GH drums are quieter, more sturdy and the sensitivity can be adjusted if necessary (granted the adjustment is made on the PC) but adjustable non the less. Please explain.

As an owner of both RB2 and GHWT kits I say they are both really good and a matter of preference. I would get the kit that goes with the game you will play the most, if you had to choose only one. Though I wouldn't want to give up the GHWT kit, and won't. Fortunately they are both pretty collapsible.

Get the Rock Band 2 drums. They're superior in every way.

And as far as the two new guitars, which do most of you prefer?

RedOctane's poor quality control and the more-or-less requirement that you wait to be sent a MIDI-to-USB cable in the hopes that you can calibrate it on your own time doesn't make for much out-of-the-box rockin' fun. I want to play fake-drums, not spend another $35-$50 to buy a cable, do an RMA that'll cost me another $25-$30 and a month delay, or wait who the hell knows how long for them to ship me a cable so I can calibrate something that should've already been taken care of in the first place.

I don't think consumers should reward a company's laziness or incompetence like that.

I have guitar hero III and just the guitars for them for the Wii. Does anyone know if the guitars will be compatiable with rock band 2 for the Wii. I know RB2 does not come out for the Wii until Dec.

From the last thread - yes it was Stu Hamm (Mordred named it).

Reminds me - I was promoting my band outside the Beacon in NYC back in '96 when Satch and Vai were playing. Everyone was waiting outside for them after the show. Stu Hamm walks out, no one gives him a second look, and he just walks down the street with his bass on his shoulder. Ahh the glamorous life of a bass player.

I think you go:

Rock Band 2: $60
Rock Band 2 Drums: $90
Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Bundle: $100

Or

Rock Band 2 Bundle: $190
Guitar Hero World Tour: $60

Both come out to $250, just a matter of if you prefer the Strat or the new GH guitar.

The cable is free from RO. It ARRIVES in 3-5 days after you call them.

It will only cost you if its physically broken and cant be repaired with the tuner. I dont like it either but thats just the way they roll.

Have you bought the game yet or you still waiting?

I played this briefly last night and I love the new guitar... granted my benchmark was the GHII guitar and the RB 1 guitar.

I do have it. That's how I know the drum kit is a P.O.S.

Yeah, I know, I know...I'm bitter.

I loved the X-plorer. I'm one of the very few who actually preferred the shape since I had a place to rest my forearm instead of it cutting into my forearm like the Les Paul does. Although I much prefer the buttons & strum bar on the LP.

Can I ask why everyone is shipping these kits back to the company rather than just returning/exchanging them to the store? is is because you bought them on-line?

They're sold out at all the B&M's. So a quick replacement isn't possible right now.

I saw many Wii and a 360 kit at one of the numerous Gamestops in my area. I was actually shocked about the 360 one but not surprised on the Wii one.

Activision has apparently informed stores to stop taking returns, and to go thru Activision/RO support for these issues.

They can't really dictate customer service to a retailer. They may choose to refuse returns from the retailer, but if a store feels they need to exchange or refund a customer they have to do so. You can't sell someone a defective product and tell them they're stuck with it if they are within the return window.

True, its up to each retailer.

But if Activision has said that they are not going to take the returns from them I dont think stores are going to take that hit for long. Not in this economy.

On the flip side though, that could endanger Activision's relationship with the retailer.

Activision needs Best Buy much more than Best Buy needs Activision.
