Not nature movies, but what are some good movies that exhibit nature beautifully?
I wish I could watch Baraka, Latcho Drom or Powaqqatsi all the time, but the lack of storyline prevents me to do so. What are some regular movies that are really in touch and connected with and really show off great cinematography of earth, nature, mountains, ice, ocean, the world, etc?
These are the only ones that I can think of off the top of my head:

POINT BREAK
CROUTCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON
NEVER CRY WOLF

I thought the scenery for 'Fly Away Home' (while it was primarily in the air, the overhead shots of nature) were breathtaking.

interesting that you'd list that, where alot of the story revolves around and in the city. 'Nausicaa' and 'My Neighbor Totoro' have more outdoor settings. Even the brief animated moment in 'Spirited Away' where the protagonists ride the train is beautiful and evocative.

That's funny that you said The Descent, because I totally thought of this one as well...The Descent is one of the best recent horror films that I've seen, I just wished it was more psychological/claustraphobic-centric than the fantastical way it turned
, in which it could have been totally realistic...I even thought about putting TURISTOS on the list - another decent horror flick with some great filmed water/cave claustraphobia scenes.
Concerning Kiki's Delivery Service, the type of areas (country, city, forest)that they show in this movie is my idea of heaven on earth. I could definitely add more Ghibli films to the list...

It may have been studios/matte paintings, but I loved the the nature shots from
Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan Lord of the Apes - the mixing of the on location shots with the volcano in the distance at the end - wow, it was epic watching it on DC's Uptown's screen.
2003's 'Off the Map' made me want to move to New Mexico - beautiful scenery/cinematography.
Jean Renoir's 'The River'
'Before the Rains' - the cinematography is breathtaking, the plot ultra contrived.
'Knife in the Water'
'Dreams' (Kurosawa)

since 'House of Flying Daggers' and 'Crouching Tiger' were mentioned how about 'Hero' - with the fight scene over the lake and between the trees - oh I sooo want this on bluray!
