Uh oh...."Karen & Jack" (Will & Grace spinoff)

Just one of the many stories online> http://www.popcrunch.com/will-grace-spinoff-karen-jack/

Seems the pilot is a go. On the one hand, both are very funny characters. On the other, Fraiser aside, what non leading character spinoff series has ever been successful? Maude only appeared on "All in the Family" like twice. "Flo" and "The Tortellies" are two supporting character series that come to mind. And both failed miserably. The only way for this to work is to have James Burrows back. And have many many other characters on the show. Karen and Jack just cannot carry a 30 minute weekly sitcom. It's overkill.

Wasn't "Will and Grace" really "Karen and Jack" anyway? Especially towards the end of the run.

Okay that's strange, this thread was started in '08. What's the point now? Didn't it end several years ago?

Why don't they make a Ross and Rachel spin off.

Or a Cliff and Norm spin off.

Seriously is W&G even relevant still?

Jack and Karen in a different setting with other cast members would make it different enough that people might tune in. They were often the two characters the audience liked most.

Boo. They even joked about on the show how a spinoff with the two of them would never work.

Jack and especially Karen were always my favorite characters on the show, but I agree that most likely it will fail.

Considering that Will & Grace actually showed how Karen and Jack end up, this show is somewhat pointless from every angle. While entertaining in their own right, neither character is at all sympathetic - just mostly flat out self-centered and nasty. Fine for supporting, but not really something to support an entire series.

True but so were the main characters in "Absolutely Fabulous".

It's technically not a spin off of the TV show but the movie as I understand it.

Thank you. While I relish the idea of something related to "Will & Grace" returning to the airwaves, lets face it: while Jack and Karen probably always got the bigger laughs the reason people came back week after week was because of the chemistry and relationship between the four leads. Without Debra Messing and Eric McCormick their to tye everything together (and take up 12 minutes of screentime) this has "Joey" written all over it...

Jack and Karen were definitely great supporting characters and at times funnier than the leads, but a lot of what made those two characters funny were Will and Grace. Karen had great parts with Will and Grace and Will had a lot of good parts with Jack. I will watch, but they will have to pretend the series finale never happened and have McCormack and Messing make recurring appearances.

Britcoms are a different breed altogether. While you are correct in applying my analysis of Jack and Karen in comparison, American attempts at doing a show like that has never been very successful (High Society or the better received Cybill perhaps?).

So they can't create two different characters for Jack and Karen to interact with?

I'm actually looking forward to this--surprised they didn't do it sooner. They were the only reason to watch W&G, McCormack and Messing were a bore.
