Sould Leslie Moonves Be Fired?

It seems like Les Moonves has done everything in his power to alienate all the viewers and listeners of the CBS network in recent years and since 2005 he has been little else but a washout and cancelled many good shows, running CBS Radio into the ground over the Howard Stern debacle, while overpaying himself $67.6 million when CBS shares have declined 40% (good money that could've been spent on shows on his watch).

Moonlight and Shark seemed to have been canned mostly through impatience and faulty scheduling, rather than genuine underperformance (but you have to be some moron to cancel a show more popular than Ugly Betty). The CSI franchise, CSI derivatives, and a few duff reality shows seems to be all that's going for CBS, with no plan of replacing them if they start to fail (although I'm a fan of CSI and NCIS). He has ruined CBS News too through his pandering and nepotism.

He is another case of a dumb CEO who doesn't know his product or his target and customers. He should be fired.

I still don't understand it, not cancelling Shark and Moonlight then moving them to sensible timeslots was a no-brainer, and while 11 millions viewers for Shark and 8 million viewers for Moonlight are not spectacular ratings on their own, they were still solid viewing figures and Les Moonves pissed off nearly twenty million consumers. He had no insight about the effects of the Writer's Strike causing a lot of short term damage and is making things worse; he's employing a very bad strategy for CBS (with ratings slipping across the board. CBS is no longer in top position and the CSI phenomena won't last forever).

The thing is 80-85% of CBS' schedule is occupied by procedurals and all of them are stll doing well. I guess CBS continues to think if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I like most of CBS' programming including Amazing Race, Survivor and the procedurals, but as you mentioned the programs are aging and won't do well forever. CSI, Survivor & Without a Trace aren't going to last 5 more seasons.

This is an example of something that never makes sense to me. Why do you cancel a show drawing 11 milion viewers and then replace it with something that can't draw 11 mil. How is that a smart move

Moonvest's response: "Gimmie Ya Finga-nails!"

But seriously...I agree with the OP, but i do give him props for keeping How I Met Your Mother on after a couple of low rated seasons.

Umm the man brought CBS from last place to first. So no. Plus the programing on CBS is much better than the other networks. Hel even their reality shows like Amazing Race and Big Brother are better and I hate reality shows.

*Bangs head on wall several times*

I've fixed it from Midnight back to Moonlight, but I notice I typed 'Should' as 'Sould'. Gotta take more naps.

I agree with Ronnie Dobbs that Leslie Moonves did wonders with CBS in the late 90s to mid 2000s, but in more recent times he's starting to accumulate more obvious mistakes in running non-reality shows and is not scheduling them properly, while becoming more arrogant and out of touch in other ways like giving her wife important gigs that she can't do.

He killed Jericho and The Class. He was responsible for ending Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN.

No Chen no Big Brother. The longer Moonves is around the longer us fans of BB will have it on the air. I'm fairly certain that it's just a pet project for his wife.

Is CBS in bad shape? I thought NBC was in far more trouble, ratings-wise.

As for Shark, I don't know how much the move hurt it, but the 2nd season was much worse than the 1st. And Ugly Betty is in a very competitive timeslot and does quite well considering.

Howard was gone no matter what Les did btwn the Janet Jackson fallout and the Brinks Truck that Sirius backed up to front door.

I wish he would, the chenbot has screwed up so many times as host, and acts way too professional and uptight, the show would be so much better without her.

I don't have a problem with CBS.

Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men (and now maybe Gary Unmarried as well) are mindless sitcoms that I enjoy.

How I Met Your Mother, IMO, is one of my top 5 sitcoms.

Amazing Race and Survivor are the best of reality TV.

I think CBS gets most of my weekly watching. I never watched Shark and I really dislike CSI and its derivatives.

I haven't watched CBS since Raymond ended back in 2005. Nothing that really interests me on the network.

CBS seems to be getting in bad shape, it has slipped from top position among the networks.

As for Shark, I don't know how much the move hurt it, but the 2nd season was much worse than the 1st. And Ugly Betty is in a very competitive timeslot and does quite well considering.
Shark was also doing very well ratings wise despite being screened late on Sunday evenings with fucking football overrunning it ocassionally, with the lost viewers likely TIVO-ing or VCR-ing it. I disliked the S2 title sequence and the trip to Mexico was silly, but S2 wasn't that bad with the new asshole DA and Woods' character once helping to hide a body for a murderous businessman.

Howard was gone no matter what Les did btwn the Janet Jackson fallout and the Brinks Truck that Sirius backed up to front door.
Why did Leslie Moonves try to vindictively sue Howard Stern?

I hanging for CSI (LV/NY) and NCIS but nothing else appeals to me and Moonves seems to have given up, with the complete mishandling of promising new shows last season.

Nope.

Let's see:

How I Met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory
NCIS

Fringe
House
Criminal Minds
Lost
Bones
Numbers
Cold Case

6 out of the 10 shows I watch in primetime are on CBS. Though I don't like the CSI franchise or any reality junk, their primetime programming works for me!

Their NFL broadcasts are also superior to Fox's and they have a ton of good college football and basketball. Sports gets a thumbs up from me too.

This really gets my goat because it made such an incredible turnaround in the last season, and if it was still on, we'd probably be deep in the Romulan Wars by now.
