Great episode tonight, and if it's a faint attempt to undo the damage from the season 3 finale, I'm all for it.
The ANGEL/Buffy guest casting continues once again, as the 'confessed killer' (the guy who refused to touch the mud and wanted Booth to sterilize his handcuffs before using them) was the "Pee-Pee Demon" seen in season 5 of ANGEL.

So Zach is able to not only walk out of the mental hospital, but he gets all the way into the Jeffersonian's lab, and no one calls the cops on him, but instead they take him out for dinner before sneaking him back to the hospital so he doesn't get in trouble for escaping?
Really?

For some reason, Zach with black gloves gave him this funny look while he was looking through the photos. So they cracked the door to bring Zach back on a semi-regular basis, but I don't think they can bring him back on a regular basis, but if the writers could work out something that truly absolved Zach of his bizarre apprenticeship, perhaps he could return to the Jeffersonian. Now, does Sweets and Zach's conversation remove Sweets as a suspect who could have been working with the Master?

This was easily the best episode of the season, a rarity to see honest character development this far into a series. Also, finally the subplot involving Zach's revolving door of replacements didn't annoy me. I actually liked this kid, possibly because it really showed how everyone who works at the Jeffersonian, include Sweets and Booth, are quite quirky, and this kid seemed normal in comparison.

^^ I would say that this was strong praise, but then again, this is only the second episode.
Yeah, I had a big problem with this, mainly the taking him out for dinner. Just didn't seem right to me.

I still think they made a huge mistake with Zach last seqason. Now they continue to make it worse. Other than trying to fit him into an episode, it was a good episode.

Pretty good episode.
Didn't like that Zach 'suddenly' remembered he didn't kill that guy...but I watched "The Knight on the Grid", S2E8, and I swear if you pause it, that IS freakin' Zach stabbin' this dude.
I've linked the Hulu at the appropriate time:

Doesn't it look like our boy lied now that he's seen freedom again?

In fairness, despite the fact that some may be leftover episodes, most people probably consider the England episode the season premiere. But how would this even be considered the fifth episode of the season?

I was actually kind of glad to finally get some kind of an explanation on this "second apprentice" even though it was kind of ham-handed.

It's pretty cheap that they said that Zack didn't kill anyone, which could leave room for him to eventually come back. I doubt that he will ever be back full time though.
And how did Zack, with hardly any use of his hands, switch the magnetic strip on Sweets card?
