Knight Rider -- Series Debut -- "A Knight in Shining Armour" -- 9/24/08

Photobucket

Series Debut Synopsis:

Spoiler:

A high-octane, tire-spinning drama about intrigue involving a tricked-out car and its driver. In the opener, Mike (Justin Bruening) and KITT gear up to deliver a package---but their parcel turns out to be a man with top-secret codes inscribed in his DNA. Mike's travels turn perilous upon the encroachment of enemies, including an enigmatic lady (Paula Garcés) who has detailed knowledge of a past Mike can't remember. Val Kilmer provides the voice of KITT.

I watched on XBox Live on Monday, as it was a free download, my thoughts:

Spoiler:

Turbo Boost = Cool, though I agree that he shouldn't be able to do it without a running start.
Transforming = Ugh. "Hey KITT, look at this new Ford car/truck I programmed you with"
The acting is awful, as was the stripping scene, completely ridiculous. Just like the original.
I sort of like the amnesia storyline.
They're definitely setting up for some big things, but it's not quite there yet.
Glad they "killed him" to set up the "man who doesn't exist thing"
The michael/sarah retcons... yikes.

Overall, it's lost a lot of charm from the original, and needs to stop being written like a soap opera.

Tried to watch in On Demand last weekend and ugh, couldn't get through more then 15 minutes. I can and do watch a lot of bad TV but this wasn't even close to watchable.

Also worth noting, This title is a reuse of an original series title, but without the "u" in armour

Watched it on Hulu last friday and thought it was pretty terrible. Big step down from the movie over the summer. Acting and writing took a nose dive, but it did have some nice eye candy!

Wow... yeah, I saw this last night (via alternate means). I feel like I've done nothing but bitch about TV so far this year, but seriously... NBC decided that *this* was something we needed? Based on the "Wow, this doesn't completely suck as much as I thought it would" reaction from that movie earlier in the year?

Yeah, this doesn't have much in the way of legs. I don't see it getting picked up beyond the initial order.

I have yet to see a positive review from critics as well -- I may not even bother tuning in.

Saw this on On Demand, and honestly it was hard to peg. It was equal parts good and awful.

Curious to see if the general public who regularly view reality programsing on a regular basis and classify that as entertaining will watch this show, which is clearly being made for the lowest common denominator.

I love Knight Rider, and I was very entertained tonight. More exciting than Heroes *flame suit on*

I bet my Mustang will not transform into attack mode tomorrow during traffic.

I am not entirely certain where to begin deconstruction on this pathetic excuse for a television show, and this is coming from someone who was a fan of the original show. The transformation into a truck, various "modes," forced dramatic tension by way of amnesia; all were cheap and poorly executed.

Val Kilmer (whom I generally love) is miscast here. William Daniels provided K.I.T.T. with a personality and wit, with charm to spare. Kilmer's is bland.

This, personally, feels and looks exactly like the recent Bionic Woman reboot. Tone. Cinematography. Acting. Writing. Humor. Nothing seems to be working here.

I am out. O.U.T.

Yeah, I stopped watching (and turned on Bones) after 10-minutes. I'll be interested to see the ratings breakdown by the half hour and see what kind of drop off it'll have.

Yeah... that's where they lost me.

I didn't care for the "Pimp my Ride" alt mode or the "Truck".

Too much CGI... period!

Of course. Why keep a good show like Journeyman when you can have this instead?

Wow, I lowered my expectations as much as humanly possible and this show could not meet them. The Pilot was kind of fun in the same cheesy way as the original series but as a series this is the most low brow garbage I have watched in a long while.

I made it through 15 minutes of the TV movie.

I made it though 20 minutes of the series debut. If they keep this up I may be able to sit through an entire episode by seasons end.

You should see the NBC boards. This show is getting thrashed left and right.

I was a big fan of the TV movie earlier this year and looked forward to the series.

However, the series debut was an absolute mess. I can't believe the same guy (Gary Scott Thompson) who was the head writer and showrunner for Las Vegas wrote this fucking garbage script. I am shocked that NBC greenlighted this script into production. I almost felt like GST didn't watch the TV movie and the old series.

Making KITT into a Transformer is one of the stupidest ideas I have ever seen.

The whole thing was faking Mike Traceur's death and this mystery amnesia with pieces of his past missing made no sense.

The first 30+ minutes featured way too much CGI and Green Screen. The whole scene with Sarah and Mike and KITT being on fire looked so fake.

The only redeeming quality for me was Deanna Russo, who is smoking hot.

The TV movie ended on such a positive note and it's sucks that it had to start like this.

I'm giving it a few more weeks to redeem itself, but this has dropped to very low priority viewing.

Wow - that was laughably absurd.

Lot of nice eye candy though.

Of all the things KITT is capable of, transforming is the one everyone is hung up on?

What was up with the Reanimator-esc green-glowing serum?

Will the show introduce K.A.T.T. before it is cancelled?
