The Soloist (Wright, 2008) - Foxx and Downey Jr.

Trailer

There was a fascinating article in The New Yorker a few months back on the real life inspiration for this film.

I have high hopes for this. Wright impressed with Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.

Oh the irony of Downey going from Tropic Thunder to a "full retard" type movie. This looks pretty good though.

Watched the trailer again. Jamie Foxx looks pretty good but I think Ledger's Oscar is still safe.

I'm looking forward to this one. I'll have to admit it doesn't look great but I'm giving Joe Wright the benefit of the doubt.

I just saw the trailer in theaters and it looks really good. Although it does kinda feel like a movie that's been done before (like The Fisher King crossed with A Beautiful Mind). But I'm a sucker for crazy geniuses films, so I'll be there on opening day!

I cringed watching this trailer, even though I think Joe Wright is a terrific director. Jamie Foxx was just so difficult to look at. All I kept thinking was "Oscar baiting".

Looks very formulaic and it's definitely Oscar bait.

I agree. I'm afraid that I'm one of the few people who is not very impressed with Jamie Foxx as an actor. I thought his performance in Ray was terribly overrated (as was the movie). Now he's doing his Rain Man..

Was pretty meh about Atonement and never bothered to see P&P so I'll wait on reviews for this.

I loved both "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice", but I was cringing throughout the trailer for this when it played before "Burn After Reading". I'll probably still end up seeing it, just for the director, but as of now I don't have particularly high hopes for it.

I've yet to see Pride and Prejudice, but really thought Atonement was fantastic. So the directing pedigree is there, but I can't get myself that worked up for this trailer. Foxx seems baity and showy, but we'll see.

Worse, he's just doing Wanda again from "In Living Color" without the blonde wig and saying "I'll rock your world!". Just look closer next time at his face during the trailer.

March? They must not have much faith in this thing. I thought the trailer made it look really good.

Actually, I'd say Foxx was only playing "half retard"

I watched the trailer. The part when Downey, jr falls off his bike and his left side of his face is scraped up and later in the trailer his right side of his face is scraped up. Is that a mistake?

i thought something looked different after he fell, but couldn't pin point it.

it looks like it could be an interesting movie, but from the trailer is very "formulamatic" as others have mentioned.

Most of us stopped choosing films based on their ratings around the same time we finished high school.
