So did everyone already get their MGS4 fix? Obviously not the system seller everyone thought it would be since one month after release we're already back to the usual monthly numbers and it didn't even crack the top 10 software either. I believe I stood alone when I called that one. Although VGChartz is showing 3 mil sold. Was all that from June? That's still a huge number.
Other than that, it looks like business as usual, although with the 360 in a funk, the price drop seems to be coming at just the right time.

I think it's more about the drop off in numbers between June and July (i.e. July's number is pretty much the same as May). Still, a lot of people probably bought their PS3 in advance of MGS4 coming out, planning to buy the game. Same for Halo 3.

Right, but that is my point. If that was the case there would be more hardware sales than there are if it was a 'system seller' like it was made out to be. Instead the usual 200k that sell every month just got shifted to a different sku.
I'm not trying to start anything, I just always found it funny during the pre-release hype how this was going to be the savior of the PS3 (like every other big release). In the midst of the hype no one stops to think about what kind of game it is. Stealth-action, heavy on story. Not exactly mass-market friendly no matter how many 10.0 and A+'s the game gets.

I think it's true that MGS4 is a little overrated as a system seller, but like Halo 3 (the 360 numbers jump were also a little lower than expected for that month too), we can never know how many fewer PS3s/360s would have been sold over the systems life if those titles never existed.

I don't see any down news for PS3. It outsold the 360 again and most importantly the software titles are hitting the top 10. I don't see the 360 losing its US dominance, but the PS3 is a solid contender and 3 strong consoles benefits us all.
