Russell Crowe wants to Make a movie on Bill Hicks
Have to admit he does look like him. I usually don't like bio pictures but Hicks had such a interesting life this could work.

Too bad Sam Raimi isn't an actor and 20 years younger. He looks exactly like the guy.
I think Crowe bears a passing resemblance and he's certainly got the acting chops. The problem is Hicks died at age 32. Crowe is more than 10 years older than that. It would be like when Kevin Spacey played Bobby Darin.

That's the general consensus, yes. But Leary added minor things like timing and comic rhythm so that he came off as funny, as opposed to Hicks, who, based on material I've seen/heard, alternated between bitterness and smug self-satisfaction, with little humor to help offset the ranting.
Interesting news though; I think Crowe could pass well for Hicks, at least physically. I don't know why people are worried about the age difference; it's not like Hicks looked like a fountain of youth when he was alive.

Casting by resemblance is "fanboy" casting. The only time it matters that the actor actually look like the subject is when they are a cameo in a movie and you are supposed to "get" who they are instantly. If they are the main character then I'd much rather have a better actor who evokes the presence of the character rather than a lesser actor who looks like the subject spot on. Give me Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn or Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi any day. If they do resemble the subject then that's a bonus, but it's not a requirement. This goes especially for a subject that was relatively obscure.

Crowe is a great actor and all but. Don't you want someone in this role capable of being funny?! I cant think of one instance of Crowe ever being funny in anything, ever.

He was pretty funny in Romper Stomper. Bill Hicks was always more angry than funny anyway, which is what always made him so entertaining.

Just because he hasn't been in a comedic role (although his role in The Sum of Us had elements) does in no way mean he is not capable. He is an incredibly gifted actor and I'm sure would only do justice to the material. Of course, they could always just cast Dennis Leary...
