Wanna beat the summer heat? Buy the I Love the 80's Dvd Collection! This collection features some of the biggest comedy and action hits of the 80's like Urban Cowboy, Ferris Bueller, Footloose, and Top Gun!!



Honestly, is anyone really excited about this collection? It is getting a huge push all over imdb.com, and I found a big display at Target. The collection is simply another dvd release of these movies minus any new bonus content. It is just the freaking movie with Square Pegs/Saved by the Bell art style on the slipcase.

Do the studios really think we are this stupid to fall for the gimmick? Some of these flicks just dont age well although Ferris is still the perfect film to watch if you stay home sick from school or work.

Apparently these come with a "bonus music cd", which should have at least two songs on it. I'll leave it to someone else to post the requisite Malibu Stacy Doll pic.

"Shameless"

You know, I naively thought there was a possibility of a new commentary from people like Michael Ian Black, Hal Sparks, Rachel Harris, et al, of the VH-1 series. That would have at least been something.

The only one of those movies I'd ever want to own is Ferris Bueller, which I grabbed a couple days ago after seeing it in Circuit City's sale bin.

At least the Ferris Bueller disc is, according to the DVDtalk review, the OOP version with the John Hughes commentary he asked them to take off the newer SE. I liked the commentary.

Yeah but that also means it has worse picture and sound than the edition that's currently in all the bargain bins.

It's not really a noticable "worse picture and sound" situation if memory serves.

Also I think a few of these "I Love the 80s" flicks haven't been on DVD before, like "The Escape Artist"

The covers are too hideous to even consider buying one of them.

I realize you're probably not being serious, but nobody displays their DVDs coverart facing out, right?

I thought most of us displayed them spine out, or threw away the cases and used binders.

For $7.50, I picked up one that I didn't have already, mainly to get the bonus CD of course.

Can somebody list the songs that are on the CD?

I saw these. Friday the 13th? Really? I don't recall pastel colors and a Flock of Seagulls soundtrack... I'll pass on these. Hell, I wouldn't even buy the ones I wanted because of that hideous packaging.

Does it have those deleted scenes that some people think were in the TV cut?

I hated when i bought the Golden Child disc in this collection becuase the cover says its 16x9. LIES! Its the same old shit disc from before. I hate the 80's re-releases!

Get used to these sorts of releases.

Now that the studios have pretty much exhausted their libraries of titles that make them money, they need to explore multiple avenues of putting the same old shit on the new release shelves.

I saw the Planes Trains and Automobiles disc, and it said "DELETED SCENE" on the back, which every other version of PTA doesn't have, so I'll definitely pick that one up.

My wife is actually excited about this line of re-issues, so now you know the demographic targeted by Paramount this time around. Yes, the packaging is garish (to be kind). Sure, they're sans features. And, yes, they have the same 4-track CD with each title. But...um...Oh, the hell with it. I don't have "Summer School" yet, so they'll get my money.

As for the CD, it is my understanding that the songs are:
Echo & The Bunnymen: “Lips Like Sugar”
Erasure: “Chains of Love”
INXS: “Need You Tonight”
a-Ha: “Take on Me”

I've written a review for the Ferris Bueller one on this site. It's a slap in the face to the consumer.

is there a different CD in each release, or just the same one in all of them?

That said, these type of crap reissues are shameless, but people keep buying them, so what do I know?

If they'd only invest some of this time they use in making these reissues and find a way to ensure that every DVD that is released has the ORIGINAL music that was included when the TV show or movie was shown, that would be time MUCH better used.

(but that's a whole other thread)

It's still not justifiable if they don't use the upgraded transfers from the special editions from these titles that were released. We're getting the old crappy 1999 discs instead of the later ones!

I was excited when I saw this in an ad on IMDB...until I realized that this was not a release of the VH1 show "I Love the 80's."

If they are going to release a collection like this, at least make it a different name from an actual TV show.

P.S. I do know that the chances of the "I Love the..." shows coming out on DVD are minuscule because of all the clearances, but one can wish.

It's the same CD for each movie. Total waste of money, even for fools who lived through the '80s (like me).

Ricockulous. What marketing manager thought that would be a good idea. So they want people to buy as many of these as possible, but to reward them, people will get the same CD over and over....

Amazing that the music industry has been suffering from double dip backlash for years, but the movie companies seem to be immune...

It's not that ridiculous, most of us who 'came of age' in the '80s realize the value of having 8 or 9 hard copies of a-ha's one and only hit on hand in case of emergency ....
