Seems that, instead of guy/girl in the song We Can Work It Out, it was actually about Paul/John, inadvertenly. In the end, they couldn't work it out.....and it was Paul's fault, for being overbearing. Look at the lyrics:

Yeah, but John wanted to break up because he was tired of being Paul's "back-up" band, as he so put it. Paul was too overbearing, acting as "leader" of the group, getting too big for his britches. Paul, not Yoko, broke up the Beatles.

Like John said in this song, life's too short for this bullshit.

The Beatles were an absolute mess by the time they broke up. I don't think it's fair to blame Paul. Was he trying to be the leader? Maybe, but I"d say by that point they desperately needed a leader. Time, more than anything else, ended The Beatles.
