DVD Talk review of 'The Ruins - Unrated'

I read Brian Orndorf's DVD review of The Ruins - Unrated at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=33842 and...i'm just a little confused. there is only one movie cut and that is the Unrated release which has a new ending? or is it the theatrical ending with just UR bits in the movie itself and then you get a new ending as the extra? thanks for clarification Brian...

According to the review here it appears there is no noticible new footage.

Confused? Tell me about it...

Spoiler:

Endings:

The theatrical cut had Amy (Jena Malone) riding off uncontaminated.

The "Unrated" cut has Amy riding off, only to find the vines inside her when she looks into the rearview.

The deleted ending has Amy riding off, only to find the vines inside her when she looks into the rearview. Cut to her gravesite some time later, where the killer plants are luring a new victim.

The disc I reviewed was only the unrated cut. The theatrical ending was presented as a deleted scene.

Edit: the unrated cut has a few new scene additions, but nothing important. The new gore footage is quite graphic.

ahhh...that is odd. why wouldn't the te ending remain intact and the new ending as an extra like nearly every UR dvd in the known universe.

It's not unheard of; the Unrated version of The Descent had the original UK ending, as opposed to the shorter US theatrical ending (and an extra on the DVD explaining the differences in the endings and reasons for the change).

And that certainly made Descent better.

Spoiler:
she makes out in the jeep and that is the end?
. the UK ending chills me to the bone and one reason this is one of my favorite horror movies of the past decade.

Spoiler:
It cuts to the credits right after the dead friend appears next to her.

It's a terrible (not to mention nonsensical) place for the film to stop; the real UK ending is much better.

I wasn't a big fan of The Descent so I didn't catch the unrated/UK cut, anybody care to spoil that for me?

Sounds like the unrated ending for "The Ruins" is better than the theatrical version.

Spoiler:
The main character's escape out of the cave is a dream. She wakes up still lost in the cave.

And to think, I was choosing between this and Gotham Knight on tuesday and put The Ruins back on the shelf.

When Mathias had both legs amputated below the knees (by use of a large rock to break the legs and short knife to cut), that may have been the first time I can remember fast forwarding through a scene.

I love horror, and gore rarely bothers me, but that was too brutal to watch and completely unnecessary to show.

Damn. I was hoping it would be a whole new ending or something long enough that might be worth revisiting again. Thanks for the spoiler though.

I loved this movie. The Ruins and The Descent are pretty much the only two horror movies to really get under my skin, in years at least.
