Can I hook a DVD player that upconverts to 720p to my 720 PC monitor?

I have an HP w1907 widescreen PC monitor that has DVI-D input. Should I be able to hook it up to an upconverting 720p DVD player that uses HDMI output and use a HDMI-to-DVI-D cable? And I also wasn't sure about how the upconversion works, most of the players show they upconvert to 1080i, how do I know if it is compliant with a 720p picture? And what are some good upconverting players that would work well with this setup?

They should all convert to 720p. And it probably should work with your monitor, too. But it depends on whether they would do the required handshake. Unless someone has the exact models you want and can comment, you'll just have to try it.
