Going to the movies by yourself?

Do you guys go the movies by yourself?

I never have and I'm attempting to tonight. A local theater is having a double feature of Son of Rambow and The Fall for only $3. I don't think I can miss out on that and I can't imagine anyone I know wanting to go..

Why is it an "attempt"? Just do it.

You shouldn't talk to people during a movie anyway, so why does it matter if someone is next to you?

I'd say I go by myself 90% of the time. And that's what I prefer, most of the time.

Wow lucky - I'd consider going to that myself (and I never go alone). Unfortunately, I missed both those films (which I very much wanted to see) when they are at our art house theater since I don't go alone to movies.

Depends what kind of movie. If there's any chance that I may need to pull a "Paul Reubens" during the flick, I'd prefer that I not have a date or a buddy sitting right there.

If he is planning to pull a "Paul Reubens" during Son of Rambow, he probably doesn't have a date or friends to begin with. Just saying .

I voted half and half, but I should have voted 75%. Whenever I go with other people, they want to go at the most crowded time and leave as soon as the credits start. Whenever I go by myself, the theater is at least half, in not completely, empty.

While this certainly would've been a bit odd when I was younger (say, in high school), as an adult, this doesn't bother me. I would rather see a movie by myself and see the movie, than not go because I don't find someone who wishes to accompany me.

Looking back on my list of this year, so far about 25% of the movies I went to, I saw by myself. The only time it felt slightly odd is when I went to see Sex and the City.

The first movie I saw by myself was Who Framed Roger Rabbit? when I was very young. My parents went to see Die Hard.

Damn, how young were you? I could never imagine my parents leaving me in a theater to go see a different movie when I was younger....

I've seen a few movies by myself...

I drove an hour to see a promotional screening of Sunshine last summer, it wasn't in theaters anywhere else in the city.

Last Christmas, I drove my kid sister to the theater because she wanted to watch The Golden Compass but I saw a simultaneous screening of Michael Clayton instead.

After my most recent breakup, I went and saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall by myself. Had a great time.

Two weekends ago, my friends were in Vietnam for the weekend but I wasn't feeling well enough to leave the country so I went and saw Get Smart by myself to have a little fun.

If you pulled a Reubens during that, my hat's off to you.

I hope it was a three-day weekend otherwise they would've been in Vietnam proper for what, 3 hours?

According to Paul Reubens, that's all you need! (Or was that Thailand?)

I go a lot actually. I like to go on the off hours (1:00 PM for instance) when no one is there. I tend to be the only one in the theater and I can fully enjoy it. This is a major change from when I used to be an asshole and ruin things for people...the lesson is don't do drugs.

I'll see movies alone if I'm traveling and have time to kill. When I'm at home, my girlfriend or one of my friends will always be up for anything I'd want to see, so I rarely go alone.

I was in Singapore at the time. It was a four-day weekend in Vietnam, and then we flew to Beijing last Tuesday.

I started going to movies by myself when I was 12...although I don't think it's safe these days for a kid to do that.

Today, I go about 50% of the time on my own. I actually PREFER to go alone, but don't tell my wife that.

I go with my friends, my girlfriend or by myself.
It really depends on my mood which I prefer. However I almost never skip a chance to go with my friends unless I have something else planned, I sometimes love just being all by myself, just relaxing and looking at all the people I don't know. And I mostly go with my girlfriend to movies she likes to see. And after a couple of years she's starting to gain the same taste as me in movies.

I hope you take a flashlight. It gets dark in the theater!

About half and half. Some of my friends just don't have the same taste in the movies as me.

When I was in colelge I went by myself all the time. It's not like you need people there, you're not talking to them during the movie.

Do you watch TV by yourself?

That's a bit different, since there's no social aspect to being at home. It's like eating at a sit-down restaurant by yourself. Nothing wrong with it, but it stands out because it's not a social norm.
