I think there must be a typo and the (2 DVDs) designation belongs with the first film, because the Donner cut is only a single disc.

Yes, I think its the better film. In fact, I wish they'd have let him have some fun and recut the ending of the original film so it was restored to the cliffhanger ending that opens this film. That way, the 'turns back time' device is used only once.
